Every January 1st, history opens its doors.
In 2026, Nigerian albums, plays, and films from 1976 step into the public domain, free to be shared, studied, sampled, and reimagined.
From Fela’s revolutionary sound, to Ebenezer Obey’s social commentary, Hubert Ogunde’s theatre, and Ola Balogun’s cinema, these works shaped a generation, and now belong to us all.
Culture isn’t meant to be locked away forever.
It’s meant to live on.
