👉 Struggling to start a side hustle as a busy mother? Let me share my journey starting a side hustle as a mother of 5 in Nigeria. Here are 5 essential steps:
️⃣ Pick a side hustle aligned with your skills and interests. For example, I started a kuli kuli business because of my passion for baking. I also ventured into the PWAN real estate group, matching my educational background. Pay attention to opportunities around you, like when I saw a WhatsApp status about a Kuli Kuli class. Consider selling products/services you already use, such as joining a reseller program like I joined Oriflame after their makeup products worked wonders for me.
️⃣ Start small but start immediately. Seek guidance from mentors, coaches, or friends already in the field. For instance, instead of waiting to start my kuli kuli side hustle in bulk wholesale, I began with N13,500 and obtained only a dozen before scaling up.
️⃣ Market your side hustle through word-of-mouth. Reach out to your network, friends, and family. I started by promoting my Kuli Kuli business to my church members.
️⃣ Manage your time effectively. Create a clear schedule and allocate specific time slots for your side hustle. At one point, I juggled four different side hustles, dedicating a day to each. Eventually, I learned to focus on the important ones.
️⃣ Stay motivated for the long term. Don't get discouraged by initial low profits. Instead, focus on your "why" beyond money. I stayed motivated by envisioning the long-term growth of my Kuli Kuli business. Now, I buy Kuli Kuli in bags, thanks to that mindset.
