Most Nigerians still think telecom companies are just selling airtime.
No.
What they are actually selling now is DIGITAL LIFE.
And many people still don’t understand that one of the biggest gold mines in Nigeria today is no longer oil…
It is DATA.

Let me explain this better with a Simple Story in a way that even Grandma in the Village will nod her head and say: "Chie! Iking... I understand this one ooh"

Imagine Mama Ngozi that sells tomatoes in the village.
20 years ago, if Mama Ngozi wanted to sell tomatoes, she would sit down in the market and wait for buyers.

But today?
Her customers now come from WhatsApp status.
From Facebook Marketplace.
From TikTok.
From Instagram.
From Opay alerts.
From bank transfers.
From online delivery riders.
Even the person buying her tomatoes is watching YouTube while cooking.

Now ask yourself one question:
What powers all these things?
DATA.
Internet.
Telecommunications.
And this is exactly why smart investors pay attention to sectors before everybody wakes up.

Last week...
I was going through the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Telecoms Reports for Q3 and Q4 2025, and honestly, the numbers shocked me.

Most people will just see numbers.
But as an Investment Strategist, I see MONEY FLOW.

Now let me break this down in the simplest way possible.

As of Q4 2025:
Nigeria now has over 179.6 MILLION active voice subscribers.
Read that again carefully.
179.6 MILLION active lines.

Then active internet subscriptions rose to over 148.1 MILLION users.
Meaning?
Nigeria is gradually becoming a DIGITAL-FIRST ECONOMY.

Now here is where it gets more interesting.
Lagos alone recorded over 18.5 MILLION internet subscribers.
Kano followed with over 9.1 million.
Ogun also crossed 8.8 million internet subscribers.

Now calm down and think deeply.
This means internet usage is no longer only a “big boy Lagos thing.”

Digital pe*******on is spreading across Nigeria.
And this is one thing many investors are not paying attention to.
Because...
The future millionaire companies in Nigeria may not necessarily be oil companies alone.

The future belongs to companies controlling:
• Data
• Internet infrastructure
• Digital payments
• AI systems
• Cloud services
• Telecom infrastructures
• Online education
• Digital advertising
Why?
Because human attention has moved online.

Now let me shock you.
MTN alone recorded over 79.8 MILLION internet subscribers in Q4 2025.
Airtel followed with over 52 MILLION.

Think about that carefully.
Every WhatsApp message.
Every TikTok scroll.
Every Instagram reel.
Every Facebook post.
Every YouTube video.
Somebody is paying for that data.

Now imagine this multiplied by millions of Nigerians DAILY.
Now you understand why telecom companies keep expanding aggressively.

Let me go deeper small:
another thing many people ignored inside that report is the REGIONAL MOVEMENT.

South West recorded the highest internet subscriptions with over 48.3 million users in Q4 2025.
North West followed with over 33.9 million.

This tells you something very important:
The Nigerian digital economy is expanding faster than many people think.
Even villages are entering the internet economy.

Now as your Financial Literacy Advocate...
let me explain what this means for you as an investors in the Nigerian capital market.

Most people invest emotionally.
But...
Smart investors invest structurally.

A smart investor asks:
“Which sector will Nigerians continue spending money on whether the economy is hard or not?”

The answer is simple:
DATA.
Even when food is expensive, Nigerians still buy data.
Even when transport increases, Nigerians still renew subscriptions.
Even when salaries delay, people still stay online.
Why?
Because internet is no longer luxury.
Internet is now SURVIVAL.
Students need it.
Businesses need it.
Banks need it.
Churches need it.
Markets need it.
Schools need it.
Government needs it.

That is why telecom companies are becoming one of the strongest cash-flow businesses in Nigeria.

The more internet users increase, the more opportunities increase for:

Now do you see why I always say:
Learn to study sectors before investing.
Because money flows in patterns.
And once you understand those patterns, you stop chasing hype.
You start following DATA.

Now let me even tell you something very deep.
Most people think financial literacy is only about saving money.

Financial literacy is understanding WHERE THE WORLD IS MOVING TO.
And the world is moving DIGITAL.
Very fast.

Now another dangerous thing I noticed from the report:
Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Ekiti recorded the lowest internet subscriptions.
(You see why I told you Guys before that in my village in Ebonyi State, you need to climb a tree before you can make a single Phone Call"
But...
This also tells investors another thing:
There are still untapped digital markets in Nigeria.
Meaning telecom expansion is still far from over.

So when some people look at telecom sector, they only see ordinary shares.
But smart investors see future digital infrastructure.

This is exactly why I always tell people:
Never invest because people are shouting.
Invest because you understand the future direction of money.

The people that understand this early will benefit massively from the next digital economy wave in Nigeria.
And trust me…
We are still very early.
