DRESS THEM RIGHT, NOT HOSPITAL RIGHT😩

Happy New Week Parents!

Me as your creche mama: "Good morning, why is xyz wearing only singlet?"
Parent: "But ma, this morning weather is hot "

By 2pm: xyz is sneezing like generator🤧

By Wednesday: Hospital receipt in the hands
By Monday: "It’s the daycare that did not take care of xyz" and the cycle continues.

Parents, come forward. Let’s not do this to ourselves.

3 Cold Weather Rules From Me to You.

1. Layer like jollof - Vest + Shirt + Sweater + Jacket. At the creche, we are going to remove if the weather is hot, but at least let's cover them well according to the weather.

2. Cover head, chest, leg - Cold enters through there first. Don’t let it.

3. Extra sweater in bag - Weather has trust issues. Morning cold, afternoon sun.

Prevention starts from HOME. We can only do little at creche.
Dress them well. Keep them in school. Keep them OUT of the hospital bill.

As a professional childcare provider, I’ll tell you the truth:
Your child is not "too small" to understand your tone.
They might not have the words, but they’re absorbing everything.

Hello Timeout Tribe.

In my work, I’ve cared for babies, toddlers, and school-age children in different homes.
And one thing I’ve learned: Childcare is not just food, clothes, and school runs.

The way we talk to children is also childcare.

There’s a narrative I hear a lot, both from parents and caregivers:
"They’re just children. They don’t understand."

Ha! Please, dead that narrative.

Here’s what I see in my job every day:
Children remember tone more than toys.
They remember how you made them feel more than what you bought them.

3 things I tell parents + practice as a childcare provider:

1. Narrate emotions to them.
Instead of "Stop crying" try to understand why the child is crying and attend to it.
In my care, kids who are heard cry less and trust more.

2. Correct in private, connect in public.
I never shout or shame a child in front of guests, carers, or other children.
Correction without humiliation builds confidence, not fear. And it works.

3. Some minutes of undivided attention daily
No phone. No TV. Just eye contact and conversation.
"what made you happy today? What made you sad?"
As a provider, this is where I catch the things parents miss.

What I’ve learned NOT to do in childcare:
1. Using children to gist- "Go and tell your aunty what happened"
2. Laughing when they repeat bad words - They’re learning from us
3. Saying "You’re a big girl/boy" to dismiss their pain

Childcare is not just keeping them alive until parents return.
It’s formation. It’s raising emotionally safe, confident, God-fearing humans.

The seeds we plant now as caregivers and parents will be the forest they become later.

Hi Timeout Tribe

Summer creche season is REAL.
Full classes, tired and worried new parents, and me watching newly enrolled kids walk in like princes and princesses 👑

It’s summer. The creche is full.
And in the first 5 minutes with your child, I already know 3 things.
Yes, I can tell you for free 😉

Summer holidays are here.
Schools are closed. Parents must go to work.
So our creche is full — new faces, old faces, and plenty energy 🤣... Energy opoor. 😎

As a professional childcare provider, I’ve learned something:
I can tell a lot about a child in the first 5 minutes.
Not to judge, but to help.

Here are 3 things I notice immediately, and what they really mean:

1. The “Bag Check” Child
The moment they’re dropped off, they’re looking for food. Snacks. “I am hungry” by 7am?
That’s hunger or a poor meal routine at home.
What it means: This child will struggle with focus and tantrums before lunch.

Parents: Always feed your child before school. Even if it’s just cereals. A well fed child is a happy, focused child.

2. The “No Eye Contact” Child
Won’t look at you. Won’t answer. Even when you correct them loudly.
No child is too small to learn.

Parents: Teach eye contact. Teach "no means no." It will save you a lot of embarrassment in public. Discipline starts with connection, not shouting.

3. The “Boss Baby” Child
Walks in, starts bullying, disobeys simple instructions, grabs toys. No “please” or “thank you.”
That’s a sign of no boundaries or structure at home.

What it means: This child will struggle with group rules until we teach them gently.

I’m not saying these children are “bad.”

I’m saying they are communicating.

My job is to decode it fast, so we can help them settle, learn, and thrive.

Because in summer, when parents must work, your child deserves more than a place to sit.
They deserve care that understands them.

Behaviour is communication. The first 5 minutes tell me how to love your child well.
