For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Isaiah 43:19 NLT

Be expectant. It's never too late for NEWNESS.

Enjoy the last quarter of the year.

July surprised me, pleasantly and otherwise yet, as the weeks and days grew tougher so did the people around me. They were there every step of the way.

Now I have another month to breathe again, my strength is on its way back and I am grateful.

I thank the Creator for putting the right people around me.

It's so good to be back💃💃💃

Welcome to August Mommas.🤗🤗🤗

Dear Momma,

Leverage (Finale).

How do you leverage relationship with management and non academic staff?

These people are some times the most overlooked people in the course of your journey however, you will find that having a cordial relationship with them goes a long way in providing you support in the course of getting your degree.

They have first-hand contact with every information that moves within your department, faculty, and by extension your school so they have preview knowledge of deadlines, exam timetables, schedules of lectures, and results.

Generally, when you're dealing with non- academic management staff here are some advice I can give you:

🎯 Acknowledge them, compliment them and be open with them.
Acknowledging that they putting a lot of work is important, compliment them when you walk by their office. Feel free to stop by and say "Hello" "You look wonderful" "I hope your weekend was great" Don't do this from a position of trying to buy their attention, it should come from a honest place.

🎯 Respect them and the information that they give to you.
Address them properly. Use title before their names. Madam/Ma'am/Mr/Sir. Respect the information that you give, it will be unfair if you take them for a ride or share what you get from them with others when you have not asked for their permission.

🎯 Show appreciation. Say "thank you" when they've been of help to you. You can also express your gratitude by gifts, a drink or lunch. I got some airtime for one of the ladies who took the time to call me about an a paper I needed to rewrite. By the time I got the official notification for this paper I was already prepared. It saved me a lot of heartache and time, the non academic staff in my department came through for me in more ways than there is space to write here. I shared the details in my book.

There is so much more help you get through this journey do not limit your scope.

I hope this helps.

Dear Momma,

Leverage part III

How do you leverage relationship with your lecturers?

Leveraging on the relationship with the academic staff in your school is quite different and a bit more tricky because of "perception". You have to tread cautiously and act with integrity.

You want to create a formal yet cordial relationship with your lecturers, course adviser and the likes but most importantly, your supervisor ( the one you are going to have to work closely with throughout school).

A mentor-mentee relationship is appropriate here. While it this buttresses on academics, it could also present a means to be more grounded career-wise, so having that good academic/career influence is important.

A well sustained cordial relationship will help your supervisor have some insight about the intensity of "mom life" and this should help them manage their expectations of you.

Something worthy of note:

📌Integrity and Efficiency should be a driving force here. Be efficient and put in the work to succeed, be present as much as possible (some days will be a struggle, emphasis on "some" so do not make every day). Lecturers admire and are eager to work with people who show grit and efficiency.

📌Create and respect boundaries, never ever over step.

📌 Do not take advantage of Goodwill. This can only be overlooked for a while but it can easily ruin even the best relationships.

I hope this helps.

Dear Momma,

Leverage part II.

How do you leverage relationship with your colleagues?

I'm referring to your course mates here ( Seniors, Juniors and for course your direct mates).

Remember our objectives of leverage, Check previous post.

📌Senior colleagues will offer you history and viable information about previous courses, tests or projects. They have inside knowledge about courses you may have to take and can give you some guidance that can shape how you approach a subject or a lecturer.

📌Junior colleagues will offer you their time. They are driven by ambition to get where you're at someday and may see you as an inspiration. They'd want to get in your space and offer support. They can support you in gathering study resources or submitting a paper for you if you can't be physically present. You can just send it to them via email, they print and get it to your mates and the rest is sorted.

📌For your mates, I cannot over emphasis how much of support they can offer you. I cannot guarantee that you'll meet up with every tasks given to you in class. You need their study notes, study groups, their slides from presentations. They generally carry you along on days you cannot be available (those days are certain).

There are more ways this works that was widely discussed in my book.

Take note:
📣📣📣📣This kind of leverage must come from a place of RESPECT. Mutual respect creates a good cordial environment. Do not take anyone for granted.
