Dear Mr. and Mrs. ______,
I want to sincerely appreciate you for trusting me with your child over the past year. It has truly been a privilege to work with your family. I understand that the progress made may not fully match the expectations you had at the beginning of this journey, and I know how difficult and emotional that can feel as parents who want the very best for their child.

Please be assured that every step, no matter how small, is meaningful. Your child has shown courage, effort, and growth in ways that may not always appear immediately, but are building a foundation for long-term development. Progress looks different for every child, and while the timeline may not always be what we hope for, the potential within your child remains strong.

You have been incredibly supportive, patient, and committed throughout this year, and that dedication makes a real difference. I deeply admire your strength and love as parents. Even though the journey has its challenges, your child is not alone — and neither are you. With continued consistency, the right supports, and the love you continue to give, more progress is still possible.

Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your child’s story. I remain hopeful for continued growth and wish your family strength, comfort, and encouragement moving forward.

With respect and heartfelt appreciation,

Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need for daily life through play-based and therapeutic activities tailored to their developmental needs.

Here’s a brief overview of what it involves:

🧒 What Is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?
- Focuses on helping children achieve developmental milestones such as motor coordination, sensory integration, and emotional regulation.
- Supports children with physical, cognitive, or sensory challenges that affect their ability to perform everyday tasks like dressing, eating, writing, or playing.
- Uses engaging, age-appropriate activities—like building blocks, swings, or sensory play—to improve function and independence.

That’s a really important question, and you’re wise to ask it early.

🕐 When to get a child diagnosed

As early as possible. Developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, speech or motor delays—most of these benefit greatly from early intervention.

If you notice concerns (delayed speech, poor eye contact, not responding to name, difficulty playing, hyperactivity, learning struggles, etc.), it’s better not to “wait and see.” Early support makes a big difference.

👩‍⚕️ Who to meet first

Pediatrician / Family Doctor – Your first step. They can do basic developmental screening.

Developmental Pediatrician / Child Neurologist – Specializes in diagnosing developmental and neurological conditions.

Clinical Psychologist / Child Psychiatrist – For assessments related to autism, ADHD, behavior, or emotional concerns.

Speech Therapist / Occupational Therapist / Physiotherapist – If you see specific challenges (speech delay, fine motor or sensory issues).

Educational/School Psychologist – Helpful once the child is school age, especially for learning and attention difficulties.

🛠️ How the diagnosis process usually works

Observation and history – Parent shares concerns, child’s developmental history, milestones, and behavior.

Developmental screening tools – Questionnaires and checklists (like M-CHAT for autism in toddlers).

Comprehensive assessment – Depending on concerns, this may include cognitive testing, speech and language evaluation, occupational therapy assessment, and medical exams.

Feedback and diagnosis – Professionals explain the findings and provide a treatment plan (therapy, school support, etc.).

📌 Practical tip

If your child is under 3 years old and you’re worried, it’s never too early. Early intervention services can begin even before a formal diagnosis.

If your child is school age, the school may also help connect you with educational psychologists for assessment.
