The Bible verse you're referring to likely comes from Leviticus 19:32, which says:

"You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD." (NKJV)

Meaning:

This command is part of the Old Testament laws on respect, justice, and holiness. Here's what it means:

"Rise before the gray-headed" or "bow down" means to show respect and honor to the elderly.

It reflects a cultural and moral value that age is associated with wisdom, experience, and dignity.

The phrase “fear your God” connects respect for elders to reverence for God — suggesting that how we treat others, especially the vulnerable or honored (like the elderly), reflects our relationship with God.

Key Takeaway:

In biblical teaching, respect for elders is a moral obligation, not just a social courtesy. Honoring the aged is part of living a life that is righteous and God-fearing.
