Lagos State Agency for Mass Education Trains Staff on Digital Skills and Service Excellence

The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education has organised a one-day in-house training for its down-line officers, to strengthen staff capacity and improve service delivery.
Speaking at the event, the Director/Head of the Agency, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, described the training as timely and strategic, stressing the importance of continuous staff development, professionalism, positive work attitudes and the effective use of modern technologies.
Held under the theme, “Workplace Excellence in the Digital Age: Communication, Collaboration and AI for Better Service Delivery,” the training covered effective workplace communication, Artificial Intelligence and public service ethics and standards.
The sessions, facilitated by Mr. Adegbesan Adekunle and Mr. Ogunbunminiyi Odunayo, equipped participants with practical knowledge on communication, collaboration, ethical conduct and the application of AI and other digital tools to enhance efficiency and productivity.
The interactive programme was attended by senior management officials, including the Director, Monitoring and Investigation, Mr. Ibraheem Mustapha; Head of Department, Vocational Training, Mrs. Irene Oladipupo; and Director, Human Resources, Mr. Adesanya Babatunde.
Certificates of Participation were presented to participants at the end of the training, underscoring the Agency’s commitment to continuous professional development, digital transformation and the delivery of efficient and effective public services.

Agency for Mass Education Holds Y2026 Annual Adult Learners Quiz Competition, Celebrates Learners and Facilitators

The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education on Wednesday, 26th August 2026, held its annual adult learners quiz competition at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa Secretariat, Lagos, bringing together learners and facilitators from across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the State.

The annual competition, which is designed to promote learning, literacy, healthy competition and intellectual development among learners under the Agency’s programmes, provided an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in both English and Yoruba categories.

Speaking at the event, the Director/Head of the Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, commended the learners and facilitators for their commitment, dedication and perseverance throughout the various stages of the competition.

She congratulated all the participants who successfully progressed to the final stage, noting that their participation itself was an achievement. She further encouraged the contestants not to be discouraged by the outcome of the competition, assuring them that every participant is a winner for having demonstrated courage, commitment and a willingness to learn.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali who represented the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, commended the Agency for its continuous efforts towards reducing and ultimately eradicating illiteracy in the society. He acknowledged the important role being played by the Agency in providing educational opportunities for adults and other learners who require alternative pathways to literacy and continuing education.

A major highlight of this year’s event was the presentation of Awards of Recognition to individuals who have distinguished themselves through their partnership and support for the Agency’s programmes and initiatives. The recipients included Prof. Hussain Lukman, Associate Prof. Jola Okebiorun, Prof. Blessing Ayinkwa, Mr. Durotimi Adeboye, and Mrs. Elizabeth Adewale.

The event was attended by members of staff of the Agency for Mass Education, facilitators and learners from various parts of Lagos State, as well as other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the participants.

Prizes were presented to the winners in both the English and Yoruba categories. Winners in the first position received an Elepaq gasoline generator, while the second-position winners received a Hisense refrigerator. The third-position winners were presented with a gas cooker, cooking gas cylinder and a solar home power system.

All the other remaining contestants also received consolation prizes while the facilitators of the winning contestants were also recognised for their contributions and support. Three facilitators in each of the English and Yoruba categories received 18-inch standing fans.

The Y2026 Annual Quiz Competition further demonstrated the Agency for Mass Education’s commitment to promoting literacy, encouraging lifelong learning and empowering learners across Lagos State. The successful event also highlighted the progress being made by the Agency in creating platforms where learners can build confidence, showcase their knowledge and celebrate their achievements.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining initiatives that promote literacy, education, skills development and inclusive learning opportunities for residents across the State.

Agency for Mass Education Holds 3rd Edition of the Literacy through Economic Empowerment Strategies (LEES) Competition

The Agency for Mass Education successfully held the 3rd edition of the Literacy through Economic Empowerment Strategies (LEES) Competition on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

The event brought together trainees from ten of the Agency’s Vocational Training Centres, who competed in four vocational skills: Fashion Designing, Catering, Makeup/Gele Tying and Hairdressing. The competition provided participants with an opportunity to demonstrate the practical skills acquired through their training while promoting creativity, confidence, healthy competition and entrepreneurship.

In her welcome address, the Head/Director of the Agency, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, encouraged participants to give their best and reminded them that every participant was a winner. She also appreciated the instructors, staff and stakeholders whose dedication contributed to the success of the programme, while commending the Head of Vocational Training Department,
Mrs. Olaide Oladunjoye, for her leadership and commitment.

The Director expressed appreciation to the State Governor for the approval and support that enabled the competition to take place. Winners received start-up kits to support their entrepreneurial aspirations, all other participants and their Instructors also received consolation prizes.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including former Permanent Secretary, of the defunct Office of the Special Adviser on Education, now Ministry of Tertiary Education, Dr. Shamsideen Olalekan Allison, the Principal of Government Senior Model College, Owutu, Mrs. Modupe Adefolarin, heads of the Agency’s Vocational Training Centres, Area Offices, Departments and Units, as well as instructors and trainees.

The LEES Competition underscores the Agency for Mass Education’s commitment to promoting literacy, skills acquisition, self-reliance and economic empowerment among Lagos residents. The Agency congratulated all winners and participants and appreciates everyone who contributed to making the 3rd edition a resounding success.

AME Marks Y2026 Creativity and Innovation Day with a Grand Celebration of Talent, Skills and Innovation
The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education held its maiden edition of the Creativity and Innovation Day (C&I), with the theme “Strengthening Innovation Culture through the Creativity and Innovation Initiative (C&I).” The event was designed to celebrate creativity, innovation, practical skills and the diverse talents of Vocational trainees across the Agency’s Vocational Training Centres.

In her welcome address, the Director/Head of the Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, stated that the occasion was a celebration of the talent, creativity, skills and limitless potential of the Agency’s vocational trainees. She noted that the competitions in Digital Skills and Traditional Compere (Alaga) demonstrated that creativity could thrive in both modern and traditional forms, while providing opportunities for trainees to develop practical skills, build confidence and express their talents.

The the event featured ICT trainees from five different Vocational Training Centres and contestants in Traditional Compere (Alaga) representing five different Vocational Training Centres. The competition provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their abilities, creativity, confidence and mastery of their respective skills.

As part of the initiative to encourage and reward excellence, prizes were presented to outstanding participants while consolation prizes were equally given to other contestants. In the Digital Skills/Digital Literacy competition, computer tablets were presented to the participants who emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. For the Traditional Compere (Alaga) competition, prizes comprising local drums and rechargeable public-address systems of different capacity were presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders respectively.

Members of the Agency’s Creativity and Innovation Committee (CIC) expressed their profound appreciation to the State Government through the Agency for creating the opportunity for trainees to showcase their talents and skills. They described the initiative as an important step towards promoting innovation, creativity and skills development within the Agency.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including all Heads of Departments and Units of the Agency, Heads of Area Offices, a representative of OTCI, Mr. Peter William and members of the Agency’s Creativity and Innovation Committee, namely Mrs. Adeshina Olayemi, Miss Ikwenobe Omonoh, Mr. Ologuntoye Adeniyi, Mr. Anjorin Tolulope and Mr. Mubidiu Azeez.

The event was educative, entertaining and historical, being the maiden edition of the Agency’s Creativity and Innovation Day. It successfully provided a platform for trainees to demonstrate their talents, encouraged healthy competition, promoted both digital and traditional skills, and reinforced the Agency’s commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation among its trainees.

The successful organisation of the event marks a significant milestone in the Agency’s efforts to strengthen an innovation-driven culture and create more opportunities for trainees to translate their skills and creativity into meaningful personal and economic development.

The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education officially flagged off the Y2026 Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Flexible Loan Access and Entrepreneurship Awareness
Programme today, 3rd August 2026, at the Agege Vocational Training Centre.

The theme of the programme was “Loan Opportunities, Entrepreneurship Development and a Sustainable Future.”

In her welcome address, the Director of the Agency, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, emphasized the importance of trainees taking advantage of the loan opportunities provided by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund to establish and grow sustainable businesses. She also encouraged participants to maximize the use of social media platforms to market and promote their products and services. Furthermore, she stressed that the LSETF loan is strictly meant for business development and should not be diverted for social or personal expenses.

Dignitaries present at the programme included Mrs. Ibukunolu Seriki, Director, Mass Literacy; Mr. Ibraheem Mustapha, Director, Monitoring and Investigation; Mrs. Olaide Oladunjoye, Director, Vocational Training; Mr. Oloye Adesina, Head of Finance and Accounts; Mr. Adegoke Otaru, Head of Public Affairs; Mrs. Ajayi Fatimah, Alimosho Area Office; the host, Mrs. Faith Olawuni, Head of Agege Vocational Training Centre; and Mr. Anjorin Tolulope.

Representing the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) were Miss Mariam Abiodun Sarumi and Miss Bunmi Rebecca Yussuf, who enlightened participants on the various loan opportunities, application procedures, eligibility requirements and the importance of responsible loan utilization.

The annual programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which trainees sought clarification on the loan scheme and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The Director of the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, represented the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Tertiary Education as the Special Guest of Honour at the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Lagos Chapter Conference, held on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The conference, themed “Human First: Addressing Contemporary Psychosocial and Economic Challenges,” brought together counselling professionals, education stakeholders, policymaker and other distinguished guests to deliberate on practical approaches to addressing the psychosocial and economic issues affecting individuals and communities.

In the Commissioner's address delivered by Mrs. Kalesanwo laid emphasis on the indispensable role of professional counsellors in today’s educational system, the increasing need for guidance and counselling services in schools were highlighted, noting that counsellors play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, emotional, social and career development. The Commissioner further encouraged stakeholders to continue strengthening counselling services to promote holistic human development and foster a more resilient society.

Among the dignitaries present were: Dr. Mustapha Sanbe (the Keynote Speaker), Dr. Peter Adenibuyan and Mrs. Janet Taiwo (the two Lead Speakers), LLR. Samuel Maradesa, Chairman of CASSON Lagos Chapter and Dr. O. Rosemary Ogedengbe, Chairperson of the Conference Organising Committee, alongside other distinguished guests and members of the association.
