To every rule, there’s an exception. That’s the case with the female cow. What are your thoughts on this?

Happy new year!

What is your favourite Yoruba name?

Which should come first: heritage or aesthetics?

My late maternal grandmother bequeathed a set of a*o oke. I treasure it deeply. I can't bring myself to turn it into a dress because then, the value would be lost.

Cultural pride is more than just wearing a*o oke or adire. It’s important to understand the story and pass on the truth of this legacy.

Now more than ever, we need to seize this global spotlight to protect the soul of our culture.

PS: I am not entirely innocent of what I have described above. But what I won't do is to trivialise our cultural heritage.

It was my first time in an orphanage home, and my heart was full. The kids at the home were receptive and inquisitive.

One of them asked me how come someone had all these proverbs in their head! I explained that it took 40 years of initial compilation and another two years to put together into a book.

Another asked me how I could write a Yoruba book like this. I replied that I was trained as a Yoruba linguist.
“Is that what you wanted to study, or did your parents force you?” Haha! I never wanted to study Yoruba. And no, my parents didn't influence my choice. Wanted linguistics/French, but my school only had Yoruba and Igbo at the time. (Linguistics/Chinese and pure linguistics are now available.) I couldn't even speak the language, but I had to learn—on the job!

Impacting lives on this scale was such a heartwarming and fulfilling experience. If you'd like to do something similar to special homes or even schools, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Do you believe that Yoruba is the most superior language?

Music is a universal language. The Yoruba sounds speak distinctively. And (what I like to call) Yoruba classics always leaves me in awe. Did you know Babatunde Olatunji?
