Mummies, gather here 😂.

Make we talk truth about this pencil and pen matter.

Every day I see our KG and lower Basic children struggling with those slim BIC pens because "mummy said big girls use pen now"

And then 2 minutes later: "Aunty my hand is paining me"

NOOOO 😩

Now, how will you know if your child is ready for thin pen and pencil. Look out for these 3 things:

1. GRIP: Are they using thumb and 2 fingers? Or are they still holding it like garri? 😂
2. CONTROL: Can they draw a circle without the paper tearing?
3. STRENGTH: Can they write for up to 10mins without looking stressed out or crying ?

If NO to any of these, pleaseeee go back to thick or half pencil. It’s not shameful.

Right tools equals big brains and beautiful writing later .

Teachers and Parents, can we talk about pencils for 1 minute?

As Occupational therapist would tell you: SIZE MATTERS. Especially when kids are just learning to write.

From my years with Kindergartners and Lower Basic pupils, I noticed something:
Those tiny, thin pencils? Stress.
But the thick, half pencils are Game changer.

Why?
Because their little hands and fine motor skills are still "budding" at this stage.
A thick pencil is easier to grip. It gives Less frustration and better writing.

Hence, I recommend half pencils in KG and lower Basic. Your child’s hand will thank you.

Responsibility is one of the strongest pillars of good character.

When children learn that every choice comes with a consequence, they grow to embrace integrity, resilience, and self-discipline.

It is deeply concerning when schools negotiate discipline with parents over students involved in acts of indiscipline.

This undermines the values we are trying to build.

Discipline is not negotiable.
It is essential.

Let us, as educators, parents, and stakeholders, work together to restore discipline in our schools.

For the sake of our children.
For the sake of our future, bring back discipline to our schools.

Summer is here, and the kids are FULLY at home .

But let's not be too flippant with them.

Here are 3 MISTAKES i see parents make, and what to do instead.

MISTAKE 1: Zero Structure.
Just TV, phone and "do whatever".
DO THIS INSTEAD: Create a simple daily routine. 2hrs learning. 2hrs play .1hr chores. Kids love structure and they thrive on it.

MISTAKE 2: They are home, so they're safe.
Not in most cases. Accidents and online dangers happen at home too.
DO THIS INSTEAD: Set screen time limits. Check what they watch.
Also, plan one outing or skill class per week.

MISTAKE 3: Zero Bonding Time.
Only giving instructions, Wash plates. Read your book. Sweep the house etc.
DO THIS INSTEAD: Spend at least 30mins daily playing with and talking to them. No phone. Cook together. Play board games. Take a walk sometimes.
They will remember all these even when the break is over .

Don't be too flippant with your kids this summer holiday.

Last week, a 9 year old son of a friend, told his mom he was going to play football with an uncle down the street.The mom said okay , be back soon, without asking "which"uncle.

We got lucky. He was back in 30mins.
Other parents weren’t so lucky.

The 8 weeks summer break provide free time for the kids.And more free time equals more chances for the wrong people.

Pedophiles, kidnappers, and bad influences are not on break.
Be careful of who and what your little ones are involved with this holiday.
