Adding jam to your career bread and butter like...👇🏽⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Dont just talk about it, be about it. Build the persona that your target role wants. Have you stalked those with your dream role on LinkedIn? Are you portraying strengths that mirror theirs?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Spend 3 months of your programme studying a highly-demanded skill. What are the “nice to have” skills on the job descriptions you’re craving?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Get confident knowing and talking about your strengths, and skills you bring from your previous work places. Your interview ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Which of these skills will you be taking on your flight with you?

❌Leaving things till last minute . I hear people you saying I want to focus on my school work, and while I hear you, times are moving fast and life is happening in parallel, let me help you reframe this

Instead: Focus your schoolwork on industry relevant topics, so this way you will simply kill two birds with a single stone

❌ Not leveraging existing expertise. Many students discount valuable work experience just because it wasnt at a large multinational. Who says theres nothing to be gained from working in your sisters shop? Lets reframe:

Instead: Focus on the SKILLS gained from the experience rather than the experience itself. No experience is wasted

❌ No strategic job search plan AKA Queen of the I'm-happy-to-help-with-anything clan. Sure, this is music to ears at a busy Owambe, but in the workplace, all this does is land you in a role where you're overqualified, underpaid and not leveraging your strengths. Not a great deal, so...

Instead: Choose a career niche that highlights your strengths and what you'd like to do, and fill skills gaps proactively with wesbites like Udemy. Remember this doesnt keep you stuck and you can always pivot and shift along the way.

It's time to drop the myth that securing a corporate role post grad is impossible - because it isn't - it just takes strategy.
