Only True Leaders Can Provide Good Governance, Says Ex-Speaker Dogara
***
KEYNOTE ADDRESS DELIVERED BY RT. HON. YAKUBU DOGARA AT THE NATIONAL MENTORING AND COACHING CONFERENCE ON THE TOPIC GOVERNANCE AND POLITICAL MENTORSHIP: IMPERATIVE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT HELD ON THURSDAY 17TH NOVEMBER, 2022 AT ROCKVIEW HOTEL (CLASSIC), MAITAMA, ABUJA

“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”- Isaac Newton
INTRODUCTION

1. I wish to express my profound appreciation to the leadership of the Chartered Institute of Mentoring and Coaching Nigeria (CIMCN), the organizers of this Conference for affording me the opportunity of participation in the capacity of Keynote Speaker. May I also commend the organizers for their diligence in the choice of the topic: Governance and Political Mentorship: Imperative for Development in Nigeria.

2. I need neither remind us that our inability to build a nation state coupled with challenges posed by underdevelopment are major drivers to all the societal ills afflicting our dear Country today. Although, the faltering national security is a subject matter on the lips of all Nigerians, now that insecurity is a thorn in the flesh of government both at the national as well as sub national tiers; however, that is just the symptom of a deeper problem not the real ailment. Our major national malaise is absence of “true leadership”, not insecurity or financial corruption as often touted. My view is further reinforced by the realisation of the organizers of this conference, that governance and political mentorship are crucial to the transformation of our dear Nation. That to me, speaks to true leadership without which our search for national transformation and advancement would continue to be a farcical illusion.

3. Let us therefore attempt to address the fundamental thematic concepts briefly as we engage the issues further.

CONCEPTUAL ISSUES:
• Governance:

4. It doesn’t matter what definition of governance you are looking

15 WISDOM FOR YOUNG MINISTERS – ~KENNETH COPELAND

1. Anybody can fall. I repeat anybody can fall in ministry. Don’t forget!

2. Anointing doesn’t protect against temptations, seductions and attacks. Don’t forget!

3. Regular personal retreat will keep you strong. Don’t forget!

4. Your strength is God’s Word. Study and meditate on it daily. Don’t forget!

5. Let go of offenses. Die to offense. Offense can come from anyone even your wife.

6. Prioritize your secret place. As a minister unnecessary visitation, gisting and wanderings are distractions.

7. Don’t forget old habits. The habits you struggled with in the old don’t forget them.

8. Keep nailing your weaknesses to the cross. It is important!

9. Family before ministry. If your wife is not happy, cancel all ministrations and settle.

10. Don’t pamper your children. Enforce greater discipline on them.

11. Don’t stop being a blessing to those who can’t give or sow. You’re called to bless and also always appreciate those who minister to you. You’re a father to all.

12. Stay on the Word. Always trap the scriptures into your heart.

13. You can make mistakes. Don’t kill yourself in case of any but outgrow them.

14. Have voices that can call you to order. That’s why elders, deacons and deaconesses are important.

15. Pray!!! Chew tongues!!! Chew prayer!!!!
