THE DSS HAS DRIFTED FROM ITS CONSTITUTIONAL MANDATE

It is deeply concerning to see that the Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria is no longer acting strictly in the interest of the Constitution and the Nigerian people.

An institution that is meant to protect national security and uphold the rule of law should remain neutral, professional, and accountable. Unfortunately, the DSS is now being used to serve the interests of certain individuals and political actors rather than the country as a whole.

This has really weaken public trust in our institutions and undermine the principles of democracy and justice that our Constitution stands for.

Nigeria deserves strong institutions that serve the people—not individuals. Transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to the Constitution must remain the guiding principles for all security agencies.

On this note, if the DSS can no longer fulfill its mandate in a fair and constitutional manner, then its continued existence must be questioned and a better alternative created that truly serves the Nigerian people.
