Northwest University Kano Holds Memorable 13th Matriculation Ceremony for 2025/2026 Academic Session

Northwest University Kano on Friday, 15th May 2026, held its 13th Matriculation Ceremony for newly admitted students of the 2025/2026 academic session at the Muhammadu Sanusi II Lecture Hall, in a colourful and memorable atmosphere, marking a significant milestone in the history of the institution.

The ceremony was particularly special as it marked the first matriculation exercise presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, since assuming leadership of the university.

Although it was her first matriculation ceremony as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero was not new to the occasion, having participated in all the matriculation exercises of the university in various capacities throughout her academic career, including as Head of Department, Dean, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Professor before emerging as the head of the institution.

The 13th matriculation exercise was also historic as it became the first to formally include students of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) admitted into part-time degree programmes alongside regular students of the university.

A total of 7,929 students drawn across the university’s 10 faculties, including the Institute of Continuing Education, were formally admitted into various academic programmes during the exercise.

The Registrar of the university, Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu, administered the matriculation oath to the students, charging them to remain committed to the rules and regulations governing the institution before the Vice-Chancellor delivered her address.

In her remarks, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero emphasized the importance of discipline, moral conduct, and academic excellence among students. She reminded the matriculating students that the university awards degrees based not only on learning but also on character, urging them to uphold the values and reputation of the institution throughout their stay on campus.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his continued support and commitment toward the growth and development of Northwest University Kano. She commended the Governor for the remarkable efforts being made to reposition the university and improve the learning environment for students and staff.

Professor Amina further called on the newly matriculated students to be law-abiding, dedicated, and focused in their academic pursuits, while encouraging them to become worthy ambassadors of the university wherever they may find themselves in the future.

According to her, students must contribute positively toward making the university greater through hard work, discipline, and responsible conduct.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, several matriculated students expressed joy and excitement over securing admission into the university and pledged to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution and work hard toward achieving academic success.

The ceremony ended successfully with goodwill, excitement, and renewed hope for a productive academic journey for the newly admitted students.
