NAKSS Reclaims Its Mandate, Rejects Political Hijack, Issues Final Warning
The National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS), National Body, has observed with deep concern recent attempts by a suspended officer to drag the name of the Association into partisan political controversies within Kano State.
The National Senate of NAKSS, acting strictly within its constitutional powers, suspended Comrade Isyaku Ali Kanwa from the office of National President following several petitions, allegations, and breaches of the Association’s constitution. By this action, he ceased to hold or exercise any authority on behalf of NAKSS from the effective date of his suspension.
Despite this clear position, the suspended officer has continued to parade himself as National President and to make public statements falsely associated with the Association. NAKSS views this conduct as a deliberate attempt to hijack the student union structure for personal and political ends.
Let it be stated without ambiguity: NAKSS is not a political organisation and will not be used as a tool for partisan battles. The Association represents all indigenous students of Kano State, regardless of political affiliation or ideology. Individual members are free to hold and express their political views, but no individual—suspended or otherwise—has the right to speak or act politically in the name of NAKSS.
The Association hereby issues a final warning to Comrade Isyaku Ali Kanwa to immediately cease parading himself as President of NAKSS or speaking on behalf of the Association. Failure to comply will compel the Association to invoke all available legal and institutional measures to defend its mandate, name, and constitutional order.
NAKSS remains steadfast in its historic struggle for the welfare, unity, and academic advancement of Kano State students. At this critical time, we call on the Kano State Government to urgently address the disbursement of bursary scholarship, particularly following the recent removal of the 50% registration scholarship for students of state-owned institutions. The economic hardship on students is real, and immediate intervention is required.
NAKSS will continue to stand firm, resist all forms of political hijack, and pursue its mandate in the collective interest of Kano State students.

OFFICIAL DISCLAIMER

DISCLAIMER: LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIONS ARE NOT PART OF NAKSS STRUCTURE – NATIONAL BODY CLARIFIES
The attention of the National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS) National Body under the able leadership of comrade Rabiu Muhd Acting National President has been drawn to the unconstitutional inclusion and activities of certain Local Government Unions purportedly operating under the name and authority of NAKSS.
This unconstitutional practice was introduced by the suspended National President, who falsely claimed that Local Government Unions form part of the Association’s official structure. The National Body hereby issues this clarification to correct the record and reaffirm its commitment to constitutional order.
According to the NAKSS Constitution, Article 6 clearly states that:
“There shall be four (4) organs for NAKSS (National Body), namely:
1. The National Congress
2. The National Senate
3. The National Executive Council
4. The National Judicial Council.”
This provision explicitly defines the only recognised structures within the National Body. Therefore, there is no constitutional provision for any “Local Government Union” to exist or operate under the umbrella of NAKSS.
Furthermore, Article 17 – Local Branches of NAKSS, provides that:
“Local Branches of NAKSS are those Associations of students of Kano State origin who are attending post-secondary institutions throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria and abroad.”
“All Local Branches of NAKSS shall be autonomous associations responsible for managing their own activities within their respective institutions, but must be registered with and answerable to the NAKSS National Body through the National Senate.”
By this constitutional provision, only institution-based NAKSS chapters (in universities, polytechnics, and colleges) are recognised as Local Branches of the National Body.
Hence, any Local Government Union claiming to be under NAKSS is not recognised by the Constitution and operates outside the Association’s legal framework.
It is important to note that Local Government Unions are independent student associations, duly constituted by their own members, and guided by their respective constitutions. They do not fall under the administrative or constitutional structure of NAKSS National Body and therefore cannot act, represent, or speak on behalf of NAKSS in any capacity.
The National Body hereby calls on all government agencies, student stakeholders, and the general public to disregard any Local Government Union parading under NAKSS as it is unconstitutional, misleading, and unauthorized.
NAKSS National Body remains firm in protecting the supremacy of its Constitution, promoting unity among Kano State students, and maintaining institutional discipline and transparency in all its engagements.

PRESS RELEASE
5th November, 2025
NAKSS NATIONAL BODY SUSPENDS NATIONAL PRESIDENT, APPOINTS ACTING PRESIDENT
National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS) National Body, at its National Joint Session held on Monday, 3rd November, 2025, at Kano State Polytechnic, reached critical resolutions concerning the leadership of the Association.
After extensive and transparent deliberations on constitutional breaches, petitions, and administrative misconduct, the National Senate exercised its constitutional powers and suspended the National President Comrade Isyaku Ali Kanwa for violations of Articles 4 and 17 of the NAKSS Constitution.
The suspension remains procedural pending his appearance before the Senate to defend himself.
In line with the NAKSS Constitution, the current Vice President (I) Comrade Rabiu Muhammad Sa’ad has been directed to assume office immediately as the Acting National President to ensure continuity, stability, and proper coordination of the Association’s activities.
The Senate also reaffirmed 15th November, 2025, as the date for the National Congress, during which all resolutions shall be ratified. Additionally, all Local Chapters are to complete their registration and verification before the said date.
The National Body remains firmly committed to transparency, accountability, and unity in service to the students and people of Kano State.
All members and stakeholders are therefore urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of the constitutional process aimed at repositioning NAKSS for greater effectiveness.
