WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY 2026

Hope Through Awareness, Care, and Action

Every red blood cell tells a story. For millions living with sickle cell disease, that story includes resilience, courage, and the daily pursuit of better health.

This World Sickle Cell Day, the AMR Club, Bayero University Kano, calls on everyone to:
✓ Know your genotype before marriage or childbearing.
✓ Promote early diagnosis and timely medical care.
✓ Support individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.
✓ Challenge myths, reduce stigma, and spread accurate information.

A simple genotype test can shape informed decisions and help prevent avoidable suffering. Together, through education, compassion, and collective action, we can build healthier communities and brighter futures.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dedicated member of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club BUK, Yusuf (fondly known as Abban Yara). A 400-level student in the Department of Environmental Health Science, Yusuf returned to his Creator yesterday following a protracted illness.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

The AMR Club BUK, in collaboration with the AMR Club NWU and ADMAP-BUK, proudly invites the entire university community to its Quiz and Debate Competition as part of the activities for the *World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025.

This exciting event aims to create awareness on the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and to encourage students to take part in discussions that promote responsible use of medicines.

Event Features:

Debate: AMR Clubs BUK & NWU vs ADMAP-BUK

Inter-Faculty/Inter-Department Quiz Competition on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) for level 1-3 students

Debate Topic:
“AMR poses a greater existential threat to the future of global society than drug abuse.”
