READ THE ROOM

A few years ago in the North, I went for a job interview.
I answered every question correctly. I was confident.

Then one panelist brought up politics.
I spoke my mind. Honest. Direct.
I said I believed the American government obeys the rule of law more than the Nigerian government.

We laughed... but I felt it.
I had just disagreed with the belief system of the man deciding my fate.

I got home and realized:

My certificate got me into the room. But my lack of wisdom almost kept me out of the job.

Lesson I learned that day:

In every setting, understand the culture, the values, and the unspoken rules.
Sometimes being right is not as important as being wise.

Sometimes you support.
Sometimes you stay silent.
But always, _read the room first_.

1 Samuel 5:6 shows the heavy hand of judgment. When the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant and treated the presence of God casually, “the Lord’s hand was heavy” on them. He brought devastation and affliction. This dimension highlights God’s sovereign power to confront rebellion, defend His holiness, and humble those who oppose Him. His hand is not weak or negotiable; it is weighty, decisive, and able to overthrow systems and strongholds that stand against Him.

Ezekiel 3:22 reveals the enabling hand of commissioning. Here the same hand rests upon the prophet—not to crush him, but to strengthen, direct, and prepare him for divine encounter: “The hand of the Lord was on me there…” This is the empowering presence that lifts, guides, and equips God’s servant for the assignment ahead.

Together, these verses present a full picture of the hand of God:

It is mighty against opposition (1 Samuel 5:6).

It is mighty upon His people for strength, direction, and purpose (Ezekiel 3:22).

In this 30-hour prayer and fasting marathon, the theme “The Hand of God” therefore carries both expectation and holy reverence: the same hand that can dismantle the works of the enemy is the hand that rests upon those who wait on Him, ready to speak, strengthen, and send.
