From Tragedy to Treatment: KSCHMA Rapid Response Team Follows Up, Secures Surgical Care for Widowed Fire-Incident Survivor in Kano
28th February 2026
In continuation of its compassionate and responsive healthcare intervention, the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), through its Rapid Response Team (RRT) under the Office of the Executive Secretary, has conducted a structured follow-up that has led to the scheduling of surgical care for Fauziyya Hamisu Haruna, a widowed mother and survivor of a devastating fire incident.
Following her enrollment, alongside her four children, into the State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, the Rapid Response Team maintained close monitoring of her medical condition and facilitated her referral to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for comprehensive assessment and specialist evaluation.
As part of the follow-up process, medical experts at the facility carried out detailed clinical examinations and confirmed that Fauziyya will undergo a surgical procedure in the coming weeks to address complications arising from injuries sustained during the fire incident. She is currently receiving pre-operative care and medical supervision to ensure optimal surgical preparedness and improved recovery outcomes.
The intervention, carried out under the directive of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, highlights the operational strength of KSCHMA’s Rapid Response framework, which prioritizes continuous patient follow-up, coordinated referrals, and sustained engagement with healthcare facilities to guarantee appropriate treatment pathways.
Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar reiterated that the Agency remains steadfast in protecting vulnerable households, ensuring that enrollment into the scheme translates into tangible access to secondary and tertiary medical services when required.
This follow-up intervention reflects the practical implementation of the Inclusive Healthcare Policy of His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which emphasizes equitable access to quality healthcare services for widows, children, and socially vulnerable citizens across Kano State.
KSCHMA will continue to monitor Fauziyya’s progress closely through the Rapid Response Team to ensure a successful surgical outcome and sustained recovery, reinforcing the Agency’s commitment to people-centered and inclusive healthcare delivery throughout the State.
