These are the safest, most polite ways to start a conversation in a professional or semi-formal setting.

1. Good morning: Used until 12:00 PM.

2. Good afternoon: Used from 12:00 PM to about 5:00
PM or 6:00 PM.

3. Good evening: Used from 6:00 PM until the end of the day.

Note: Never use “Good night” as a greeting; it is only used when leaving or going to sleep.
