Today is World Hepatitis Day! 💛🎗️

Hepatitis is often called a silent disease because many people don't experience symptoms until serious liver damage has already occurred. Yet, it is preventable, detectable, and in many cases, treatable.

This year's reminder is simple: One test can save a life.

Ending hepatitis is a shared responsibility. By promoting awareness, embracing routine screening, getting vaccinated against Hepatitis B, and encouraging early diagnosis, we can reduce transmission, improve treatment outcomes, and save lives.

Here's how you can protect yourself and others: 🩸

PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS: WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY 2026

On this day, May 17, 2026, the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students' Association (NIMELSSA), BUK Chapter, stands alongside global healthcare bodies to mark World Hypertension Day.

We are guiding our advocacy with this year's official theme: "Controlling Hypertension Together: Check Your Blood Pressure Regularly, Defeat the Silent Killer."

Hypertension continues to be a leading public health challenge worldwide. However, through widespread education, early detection, and routine tracking, its severe complications—including heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease—can be effectively prevented.
As an association dedicated to diagnostic excellence and health promotion, we encourage all students, faculty members, and the general public to make blood pressure checks a consistent part of their healthcare routine. Prevention saves lives, and awareness begins with us.

Today, we join the global community in marking World Tuberculosis Day, a reminder of the ongoing fight against Tuberculosis and its impact on individuals and communities. As future Medical Laboratory Scientists, we play a key role in early detection, accurate diagnosis, and the fight to reduce its spread.

Tuberculosis remains a major public health challenge, but with awareness, timely testing, and proper treatment, it is preventable and curable. Let us continue to educate, advocate, and support efforts aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding the disease.

Together, through knowledge and action, we can contribute to a healthier society.
