The Federal Road Safety Commission has just
come out with the concept of “ICE".. Please read
carefully, it may save your life or that of someone
you know" We all carry our mobile phones with
names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were
to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the
people attending to us would have our mobile phone
but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are
hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the
contact person in case of an emergency? Hence
this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The
concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a
method of contact during emergency situations.
As mobile phones are carried by the majority of
the population, all you need to do is store the
number of a contact person or persons who
should be contacted during
emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of
Emergency). The idea was thought up by a
paramedic who found that when he went to the
scenes of accidents there were always mobile
phones with patients but they didn't know which
number to call. He therefore thought that it would
be a good idea if there was a nationally
recognised name for this purpose. In an
emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel
and hospital staff would be able to quickly
contact the right person by simply dialling the
number you have stored as 'ICE'. Please forward
this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before
everybody will know about this. It really could
save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.
For more than one contact name simply enter
ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. PASS THIS AROUND AS
MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND THIS CAN HELP IN
AN EMERGENCY".

Entering a freeway:
The key to entering a freeway is to increase your speed in the acceleration lane until it matches the speed of the vehicles already on the freeway.
You also need to plan your merge.

1. While on the entrance ramp, look at the freeway traffic and determine where you want to merge.
2. Build up your speed in the acceleration lane as quickly as you can.
3. Continue to check the spot where you want to merge.
4. Signal, make your final shoulder check and accelerate into the freeway lane. Merging at less than freeway speeds can be dangerous.

Sequence of effects on the body

Alcohol is absorbed into the blood stream very quickly. As blood alcohol levels start to rise, the brain becomes increasingly sedated or drugged.

Judgement
The first part of the body affected by alcohol is the brain, particularly the part of the brain that allows you to think clearly and make good decisions. Its sedative effects impair judgement in a way that is usually not noticed by the drinker. The part of the brain that controls social inhibitions is also affected, causing people to say and do things they normally would not. These effects start with one drink.

Muscle control
The second part of the body affected by alcohol is muscle control. Due to the small muscles in the eye being very susceptible to the effects of alcohol, vision can be significantly affected, even at low alcohol levels.

The brain functions that are first affected by alcohol consumption are not only important to our ability to drive safely, but are the same ones required to make rational decisions about not driving after drinking.

Skid

To skid means to slide without rotating. Skids occur when you lose control of your steering; your vehicle is failing to grip the roadway and sliding sideways on the road. Do not apply the brake while you are turning. It's very easy to lock your wheels while turning. If that happens, you may skid out of control or cause too much weight transfer and rollover.

STORAGE AND EXPIRY DATE OF TYRES

Tyres should be stored in a cool and dry condition, out of direct sunlight and electrical generating equipment. Tyres should not be stored where they can absorb moisture to prevent tyre failure.
An average tyre has four (4) years life span. The week of manufacture is also indicated on the tyres. For example, 5208 means the particular tyre was manufactured in the 52nd week of 2008. The tyre which was manufactured in December 2008, whether fitted to vehicle or not, had expired in December 2012.
