BUK Mourns Renowned Physicist, Prof. Bello Idris Tijjani

Bayero University, Kano, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Professor Bello Idris Tijjani of the Department of Physics, who died on Friday, 21 August 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, who attended the funeral prayer held at the Old Campus Central Mosque shortly after the Jumu'ah prayer, described the late academic as an outstanding atmospheric physicist, a humble, kind-hearted, and trustworthy scholar who served the University with dedication, professionalism, and integrity.

Professor Musa noted that the late Professor Tijjani made significant contributions to teaching, research, and the development of the University community, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and selfless service.
He prayed to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, shower His infinite mercy upon him, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, colleagues, students, and loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss. Ameen.

BUK VC Appreciates KHAIRUN for Colloquium Held in His Honour

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, has expressed profound appreciation to the management of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) for organizing a maiden colloquium in his honour to commemorate his first year in office as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University.

In a message of appreciation on Wednesday, 19th August, 2026, Professor Musa thanked the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, the University's Governing Council and Management for what he described as a thoughtful and historic gesture.

He said the honour was not only meaningful to him personally but was also deeply appreciated by the entire Bayero University community.

"I would like to most respectfully acknowledge and appreciate the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, the Governing Council and Management for organising a maiden colloquium in my honour, marking my one year in office as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano. This honour is greatly appreciated by the staff, students and indeed the entire community of Bayero University, Kano, and we remain eternally grateful for this recognition," he said.

Professor Musa also extended his appreciation to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and friends of KHAIRUN for joining in the celebration of his first anniversary in office.

Reaffirming Bayero University's commitment to partnership, the Vice-Chancellor pledged to deepen the existing relationship between the two institutions in pursuit of academic excellence and national development.

"I assure you that Bayero University, Kano, under my stewardship will continue to strengthen the existing collaboration with KHAIRUN for the benefit of humanity," Professor Musa stated.

The colloquium, organised by Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, brought together academics, researchers, students and other stakeholders to celebrate Professor Musa's first year of leadership while also providing a platform for intellectual discourse on "Transformative Science and Technology Education for Sustainable National Development."

The Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), Professor Abdulrashid Garba, has explained the reasons behind the University's decision to honour the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, with a colloquium to mark his first year in office.

Professor Garba said the first objective was to celebrate the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, whom he described as an icon of academic progress. He noted that within just 12 months in office, Professor Musa has demonstrated purposeful leadership through significant strides in academic development, staff welfare initiatives, student-centred support services, and an increased drive towards internationalization.

According to him, the second objective was to celebrate a mentor through the recognition of his mentees. He explained that the event acknowledged Bayero University, Kano's pivotal role in the establishment and growth of KHAIRUN, as well as its broader contributions to the development of universities across Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.

Professor Garba said the third objective was to provide an academic platform for examining emerging theoretical and practical advances in sustainable development, with particular emphasis on science and technology education.

"Transformative Science and Technology Education is regarded as a catalyst for personal, societal and environmental transformation," he stated.

He added that the colloquium was designed not only to honour exemplary leadership but also to stimulate intellectual discourse on the role of science and technology education in advancing sustainable national development.

Governor Yusuf Commends KHAIRUN for Hosting Colloquium, Congratulates BUK Vice-Chancellor on One Year in Office

Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) for organizing a colloquium, conference and book launch in honour of the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, to mark his first year in office.

The Governor gave the commendation on Tuesday, 18th August, 2026, during the colloquium held at KHAIRUN with the theme: "Transformative Science and Technology Education for Sustainable National Development."

Represented by the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, Governor Yusuf congratulated Professor Haruna Musa on the successful completion of his first year as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano. He noted that the Kano State Government is proud of the remarkable achievements recorded by the University within the short period of Prof. Musa's leadership and reaffirmed the state's commitment to strengthening collaboration with BUK in advancing education, research and academic excellence.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, said the colloquium was organized to commemorate the first anniversary of Professor Haruna Musa's tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano.

He explained that the event was preceded by an academic conference that brought together experts, scholars, researchers and students to present research findings, deliberate on transformative science and technology education, and examine its role in promoting sustainable national development.

In his response, the celebrant, Professor Haruna Musa, expressed profound appreciation to the Founder, Governing Council, Vice-Chancellor and the entire KHAIRUN community for the honour. He emphasized that he accepted the recognition not as a personal tribute but on behalf of the staff, students and alumni of Bayero University, Kano, and indeed every colleague across the Nigerian university system who continues to teach, conduct research and supervise students despite challenging conditions that would discourage many others.

Senator Lado Dan Marke Sponsors 2,000 BUK Students, Promises More Support

Senator Yakubu Lado Dan Marke has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education after sponsoring about 2,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from Katsina State studying at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The Senator disclosed his continued commitment when he paid a visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, where he pledged to sustain and expand his support for students.

Receiving the Senator, Professor Haruna Musa described him as a “philanthropist per excellence” whose benevolence knows no bounds. He said individuals with such a passion for supporting education were few in Nigeria, adding that Senator Lado Dan Marke had demonstrated that philanthropy could become a powerful force for transforming lives and opening opportunities for young people.

The Vice Chancellor called on other wealthy Nigerians and well meaning individuals to emulate the Senator’s example by investing in education, stressing that the responsibility of financing education was too enormous for government alone to shoulder.

Professor Haruna Musa commended Senator Lado Dan Marke for his intervention, noting that supporting students was not merely a charitable gesture but an investment in human capital and the future of the country.

The Senator’s sponsorship of about 2,000 students has provided a significant lifeline to beneficiaries from Katsina State, while his promise to do more offers renewed hope to students seeking to pursue their academic dreams despite financial challenges.
