Chairman Council of Qur’anic Education from Borno State Visits KHAIRUN, Reaffirms Commitment to Qur’anic Education

The Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, today received a delegation accompanying the Chairman, Council on Qur’anic Education from Borno State, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship associated with the late Founder of the University, Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, and exploring opportunities for the promotion of Qur’anic education.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Council on Qur’anic Education from Borno State, Sheikh Tijjani Umar.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to express its interest in promoting Qur’anic education and strengthening relationships with institutions that share a commitment to the advancement of knowledge, moral development and Islamic education.

The delegation also highlighted the importance of recognising the Tsangaya system as a valuable institution with a long-standing contribution to Qur’anic learning, Islamic scholarship and moral development. They emphasised the need to correct misconceptions and negative narratives that portray Tsangaya education as an institution of shame, noting that such perceptions do not adequately reflect its historical significance and contributions to education and society.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the delegation for visiting KHAIRUN and commended its commitment to the advancement and preservation of Qur’anic education.

Prof. Abdulrashid Garba briefed the delegation on some of the distinctive programmes embedded in KHAIRUN’s academic and character-development framework, with particular emphasis on Qur’anic Recitation, Morality, Entrepreneurship, Arabic and French language studies.

He explained that these programmes are designed to complement students’ academic training with moral, personal and intellectual development, in line with the vision of the late Founder, Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, of establishing a university that produces graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and equipped with good character.

The Vice-Chancellor further noted that KHAIRUN remains committed to preserving and promoting the values of Qur’anic learning, moral discipline and responsible citizenship as integral components of the University’s educational philosophy.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing their commitment to sustaining meaningful relationships and exploring avenues for collaboration, particularly in the areas of Qur’anic education, moral development, knowledge advancement and the preservation of the values of the Tsangaya system.

KHAIRUN remains committed to nurturing graduates who combine academic excellence with sound character, moral integrity and a strong sense of responsibility to society.

BUK Vice-Chancellor Visits KHAIRUN, Reaffirms Support for Accreditation and Academic Development

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, paid a courtesy visit to Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano, to express his appreciation to the University for the recently concluded Colloquium organised in his honour.

During the visit, Professor Haruna conveyed his profound gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, and the entire KHAIRUN team for the warm hospitality, support and excellent arrangements extended to him during the colloquium. He described the gesture as a demonstration of the strong relationship and mutual respect existing between the two institutions.

The BUK Vice-Chancellor also briefed the KHAIRUN Management on emerging developments in the area of programme accreditation, noting that the Federal Government is working towards introducing more stringent accreditation requirements. He highlighted policies that may place greater emphasis on institutions possessing their own academic staff, equipment and other essential resources, rather than relying on borrowed personnel or facilities.

Professor Haruna, however, assured KHAIRUN of BUK's continued support and willingness to provide guidance as the University prepares for future accreditation exercises. He promised to share the draft accreditation policy with Prof Garba once it is finalised, to facilitate further engagement and professional guidance.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, warmly welcomed the BUK Vice-Chancellor and expressed appreciation for the visit and the continued mentorship and support provided by the University.

Professor Abdulrashid briefed his counterpart on the significant efforts being made by the Proprietors of KHAIRUN to provide the facilities, equipment and other requirements necessary for the University's academic development and accreditation.

He disclosed that KHAIRUN is substantially prepared for the accreditation of its various programmes, with the exception of the Engineering programmes, where the construction of the required workshop is still ongoing. He further explained that the necessary equipment for the Engineering programmes has been ordered and is awaiting delivery.

The KHAIRUN Vice-Chancellor sought the continued guidance and mentorship of Bayero University, particularly in navigating the evolving accreditation requirements and strengthening the University's academic and institutional structures.

The visit further reinforced the strategic relationship between KHAIRUN and BUK, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to collaboration, mentorship, knowledge sharing and the advancement of quality higher education.

KCRIL Visits BUK Directorate for Research, Innovation and Partnership to Explore Collaboration

The KHAIRUN Centre for Research, Innovation and Linkages (KCRIL) has paid a working visit to the Directorate for Research, Innovation and Partnership, Bayero University Kano (BUK), as part of efforts to gain insight into the Directorate’s operational framework and explore opportunities for institutional collaboration.

The visit provided an opportunity for the KCRIL team to engage with the Directorate and learn from its experience in coordinating research activities, innovation initiatives, partnerships, and institutional linkages. Discussions focused particularly on effective structures and mechanisms for managing research collaborations and strengthening relationships with external institutions and organisations.

During the engagement, the BUK team advised KCRIL on the importance of being actively involved in all institutional collaborations and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) entered into by the University. They emphasised that KCRIL’s involvement would help ensure proper coordination, documentation, monitoring, and sustainability of collaborative initiatives, while also maximising the benefits of such partnerships to the University.

The discussions ended on a positive and fruitful note, with both sides expressing optimism about future engagements and possible areas of collaboration.

As part of the visit, the Directorate generously presented a collection of books and research materials to KCRIL, covering areas such as research policies, authorship, and scholarly research. The donation is expected to serve as a valuable resource for strengthening the Centre’s research capacity and supporting its activities.

The visit reflects KHAIRUN University’s continued commitment to strengthening its research ecosystem, fostering strategic partnerships, and promoting innovation and knowledge exchange through meaningful institutional engagements.

KHAIRUN Hosts National Qur’anic Qira’at Competition Honouring Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhayfi

Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano, has hosted the National Qur’anic Qira’at Competition organised in honour of Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhayfi, the renowned Qur’anic reciter and Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

The seven-day Musabaqa brought together Qur’anic reciters and participants from all 36 states of the federation, with KHAIRUN providing accommodation, facilities and the venue for the successful conduct of the prestigious national event.

The hosting of the competition reflects the University’s strong commitment to the promotion of the Qur’an, Qur’anic recitation and the development of individuals dedicated to preserving and propagating the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.

The successful hosting of the programme was made possible through the visionary leadership and support of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, whose commitment to supporting Qur’anic scholars, reciters and activities has continued to strengthen the University’s reputation as an institution that values both academic excellence and Islamic scholarship.

As part of the programme, Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhayfi presented awards of appreciation to the Director, Proprietors’ Office Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu, and the Vice Chancellor Professor Abdulrashid Garba, in recognition of their support and contributions towards the success of the event.

KHAIRUN’s involvement in Qur’anic activities is deeply rooted in the legacy of its Founder, Late Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu who is himself an Ahlul Qur’an and has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to the preservation, promotion and teaching of the Holy Qur’an. This legacy continues to shape the University’s identity and its commitment to creating an environment where Qur’anic learning and recitation are encouraged and celebrated.

The successful hosting of participants from across the 36 states further demonstrates KHAIRUN’s growing capacity to host major national programmes and its readiness to serve as a centre for academic, religious and community-oriented activities.

KHAIRUN BURSARY DEPARTMENT COMMENCES THREE-DAY SOP DEVELOPMENT RETREAT

The Bursary Department of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) has commenced a three-day Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Development Retreat/Workshop in collaboration with Matmaplus, who are serving as facilitators for the programme.

The retreat, which is aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and promoting standardised processes within the Bursary Department, was formally opened by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdulrashid Garba.

In her opening remarks, the University Bursar Dr Naja'atu Bala Rabiu welcomed the Matmaplus team and expressed her appreciation, on behalf of the entire Bursary Department, for honouring the University's invitation to facilitate the important capacity-building programme.

She further appreciated the Vice Chancellor for his unwavering support and commitment to the development of the Bursary Department, particularly for approving the organisation of the retreat. She explained that the workshop is designed to provide the Bursary staff with the necessary knowledge and framework to develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures that will guide the department's activities and ensure consistency, efficiency, accountability and professionalism in its operations.

The Bursar noted that, at the end of the three-day retreat, the department is expected to have developed a draft SOP Manual that will serve as a practical guide for the implementation and standardisation of its various processes.

Declaring the retreat open, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, extended his best wishes to the Bursary Department and encouraged the staff to make the most of the opportunity. He commended the University Bursar for enrolling her staff in continuous capacity-building programmes, noting that investing in staff development remains essential to strengthening institutional effectiveness and service delivery.

The Vice Chancellor also appreciated the Matmaplus team for accepting the University's invitation and for bringing their expertise to support the development of the University's financial and administrative processes.

The three-day retreat is expected to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, practical engagement and collaborative development of a robust SOP framework that will enhance the efficiency, transparency and effectiveness of the Bursary Department.
