On the second day of the Colloquium/Conference organised in honour of the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa FSI, the Vice Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Professor Abdulrashid Garba, visited various venues where paper presentations were being delivered by distinguished academics and scholars. KHAIRUN Hosts Colloquium in Honour of BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa FSI

Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano, hosted a Colloquium Conference and Book Presentation in honour of the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa FSI, to commemorate his first anniversary as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Themed “Transformative Science and Technology Education for Sustainable National Development,”** the colloquium brought together academics, university administrators, policymakers, scholars and other stakeholders to deliberate on the role of science and technology education in sustainable national development.

In his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, described the event as the first colloquium of its kind in the history of the University. He explained that it was organised to honour Professor Haruna Musa and recognise Bayero University’s significant role in the establishment and development of KHAIRUN.

Professor Garba described the occasion as a celebration of a mentor by the mentee and presented a special Award of Honour to Professor Haruna Musa in recognition of his exemplary leadership, contribution to higher education, and support and mentorship to KHAIRUN. The award was also presented on behalf of the Governing Council by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Professor Kabiru Isyaku, and the Director of the Proprietors’ Office, Alhaji Anwar Isyaku Rabiu.

The Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, formally declared the colloquium open. She conveyed the Governor’s goodwill and reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to strengthening education, science, technology and human capital development.

The academic session featured papers by distinguished scholars. Professor Chief Achimugu presented “The Missing Link: Science and Technology Education, Industry and Economic Transformation,” focusing on the connection between education, technology, industry and economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Abba A. A. Danguguwa, presented “Strengthening Science and Technology Policies for National Development,” highlighting the importance of effective policies and institutional frameworks in advancing science, technology and innovation.

Former Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and KHAIRUN Governing Council member, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, presented “From Static Science to Dynamic Folk Science: Hausa Scientific Proverbs in Transformative Science Education,” exploring the relevance of indigenous knowledge and Hausa scientific proverbs in contemporary science education.

In his remarks, Professor Haruna Musa FSI expressed appreciation to KHAIRUN Management, particularly Professor Abdulrashid Garba, for honouring him. He commended the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting KHAIRUN’s continued growth and institutional development.

The occasion also featured the presentation of a book authored by the University Bursar, Dr. Najaatu Bala Rabiu, titled "Firm Attributes: Tobin’s Q Analysis of Listed Industrial Goods Companies in Nigeria. The book was reviewed by her mentor, Professor Aliyu S. Kantudu, who highlighted its academic and practical relevance to financial and corporate research.

In his closing remarks, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and University Librarian, Malam Nazir Muhammad, appreciated the Governor’s representative, the celebrant, guests, paper presenters, organising committee, University Management, staff, students and participants for contributing to the success of the event.

The Management of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, as part of preparations for the forthcoming colloquium being organised by KHAIRUN in his honour.

During the visit, Professor Abdulrashid Garba briefed the BUK Vice Chancellor on the objectives and significance of the colloquium, highlighting its purpose as a platform to celebrate his contributions to academia and acknowledge the enduring relationship between the two institutions.

KHAIRUN Management Pays Courtesy Visit to AIG Ahmed Garba, Pledges Stronger Institutional Collaboration

The Management of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, on Wednesday, 5th August, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Ahmed Garba, with the aim of strengthening the cordial relationship between the university and the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the AIG for granting the university's delegation audience. He explained that it has become a tradition since the establishment of KHAIRUN to pay courtesy visits to every newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Commissioner of Police in Kano State as part of the university's commitment to fostering strong institutional relationships.

Prof. Garba gave a brief history of KHAIRUN, describing it as one of the enduring legacies of the university's founder, the late Khalifa Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu, whose vision was to establish an institution dedicated to academic excellence, moral uprightness, and service to humanity. He also highlighted the Abdul Samad Rabiu Foundation Scholarship Programme, through which 500 Nigerian students have been awarded scholarships to study at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that KHAIRUN was established not for profit making but to contribute meaningfully to national development through quality education. He noted that the university places special emphasis on entrepreneurship, equipping students with practical skills that enable them to become self-reliant after graduation.

He further explained that KHAIRUN distinguishes itself through its unique educational model, which integrates compulsory Qur'anic recitation and memorization, moral lessons, entrepreneurship, and the study of international languages alongside conventional academic programmes. He concluded by stating that the visit was primarily to formally introduce the university's management to the new AIG and to strengthen the existing relationship between the two organisations.

In his response, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ahmed Garba, expressed delight and appreciation for the visit, describing it as both timely and enlightening. He stated that he was highly honoured to receive the Vice-Chancellor and his delegation and commended the university's leadership for the thoughtful gesture.

The AIG noted that he had heard numerous commendable reports about KHAIRUN, particularly regarding its rich foundation, its establishment by a family renowned for promoting Islamic education and entrepreneurship, and its commitment to producing responsible graduates. He praised the university's academic programmes, scholarship initiatives, and tuition support offered to deserving students.

AIG Ahmed Garba assured the university of the full support and cooperation of the Zone One Police Headquarters. He further pledged to promote the university among his family, friends, and associates, expressing confidence that under the leadership of Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, KHAIRUN would continue to attain greater heights in academic excellence and institutional development.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and members of the university's management for the visit and wished the institution continued success in its mission of providing quality education and service to humanity.

KHAIRUN Community Unites in Qur'anic Prayers for Peace, Progress and Academic Success

The Management of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano through its International Institute of Qur'anic Science (IIQS), held its monthly end-of-the-month prayer session, bringing together staff and students in a solemn atmosphere of worship, reflection, and supplication.

The gathering featured the recitation of the Holy Qur'an and heartfelt prayers for the repose of the soul of the University's Founder, the late Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, as well as the departed parents of members of the University community and the entire Muslim Ummah. Special prayers were also offered for lasting peace, security, and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria at large, alongside continuous growth and success for KHAIRUN.

Addressing participants, the Director of the International Institute of Qur'anic Science, Professor Sani Musa Ayagi, encouraged members of the University community to remain steadfast in their relationship with the Holy Qur'an, describing it as a divine source of guidance, mercy, and countless blessings. He urged everyone to make the Qur'an a constant companion in their daily lives.

Professor Ayagi also offered special prayers for KHAIRUN students, seeking Allah's guidance, wisdom, and outstanding success for them in their forthcoming examinations.

The monthly prayer session reflects KHAIRUN's unwavering commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also spiritual development, moral values, and a culture of collective prayer for the continued progress of the University and society.
