Last month, Prof. Hadiza Shehu Galadanci, the Director of ACEPHAP alongside other healthcare professionals attended the Pre-eclaptic Summit in the capital city of Kigali, Rwanda.

Reports have shown that every year, 6 million women experience pre-eclampsia.

Mothers in low and middle income countries like Nigeria, experience this challenge severely with about 98% of deaths recorded due to hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Together, they discussed innovative ways to end preventable deaths from pre-eclamsia.

One of the recent trainings conducted by ACEPHAP was that of the Research Assistants and Community Supervisors in preparation for the baseline data collection for the Kebbi State for Community Bundle Project.

The training was designed to strengthen participants’ capacity for effective data collection, supervision, and implementation of community-level project activities. With the knowledge gained, these trained healthcare workers will be able to collect the right information that will guide decision making and the implementation of maternal health interventions in the state.

Extending its impact by transforming healthcare outcomes, Africa Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) is extending its impact by reimagining maternal, newborn, and child health through the innovative EMBRACE Project (Enhancing Maternal and Baby Resilience through Access, Care, and Equity) initiative in Gombe State.

Led by the Centre’s Director, Prof. Hadiza Shehu Galadanci, and supported by a dynamic team of researchers and innovators in partnership with Technical Advice Connect, the project is currently engaging in an intensive co-creation workshop. This collaborative effort is focused on identifying and streamlining effective strategies to strengthen key pillars of healthcare delivery across Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

These pillars—service delivery/quality improvement, demand generation, governance, and commodity security—represent some of the most pressing challenges affecting maternal and child health outcomes. EMBRACE is strategically designed to tackle these gaps through evidence-based, locally driven solutions.

At the heart of this initiative is a strong commitment to collaboration. The co-creation process brings together critical stakeholders, including Gombe State government representatives, community leaders, implementing partners, development organizations, researchers, and innovators. Their collective insights will shape tailored interventions that respond directly to the unique healthcare needs of communities in Gombe State.

Beyond implementation, EMBRACE is laying the foundation for long-term impact. Robust governance structures are being developed to ensure sustainability, alongside a clear and actionable 18-month implementation roadmap that will guide progress and accountability.

The vision is clear: “Safer Births and Healthier Futures.” Through shared commitment, innovation, and collaboration, this vision is not only possible—it is within reach.
