It is a Catholic mission school owned by the Catholic Diocese of Kano, and run by the Sisters of St. It is the first Secondary Schools for girls in Kano State. Louis Secondary School after the Institute of the Sisters of St. Louis, who came from Ireland to begin the school, at the invitation of Arch Bishop John McCarthy. The motto of the school is “UT SINT UNUM”, meaning “MAY THEY BE ONE”. These w

ords are written over the school crest, underneath are written DIEU LE VEULT, meaning “GOD WILLS IT”. The school and the staff are international in character, we came from different cultural and religious backgrounds, yet we aim above all to live together as one happy family. The present proprietor of the school is Most Rev. Dr. John Namaza Niyiring (OSA), The Catholic Bishop of Kano diocese.

Official Statement from St. Louis Secondary School, Kano.

The management of St. Louis Secondary School, Kano, wishes to inform the school community and the general public that a fire outbreak occurred in the school hall on the evening of 4th December, 2025. The fire was first reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. and was fully brought under control by the emergency services at about 11:50 p.m.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Nigerian Police – Kano State Command, the Kano State Fire Service, Fas Agro Sack, Aspira, Gongoni, and all responders for their swift and dedicated action, which prevented any loss of life.

At this time, the exact cause of the fire has not been determined. While investigations are ongoing, we strongly suspect that an electric spark may have been the source. Further details will be provided as they become available.
