No 4 OGBOMOSHO ROAD, KADUNA, KADUNA STATE NIGERIA.

~ HISTORY OF SHEIKH ABDULLAHI GWANDU SCHOOL FROM THE SCHOOL DIRECTOR.

Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu was first conceived by early Kaduna settlers as a community Islamiyya school for the indigenes of Kaduna, way back in 1948.

The pioneers notably among whom where Alh. Abdullahi Kwangila, Alh. Muhammad Kuso, Alh Muhammad Katchan, Mal. Muhammadu Acici, Mal. Usman Sukola, Mal. Abdullah Gunduru, Mal. Muhammadu Mako, Mal. Zakari Isa, etc approached the Premier of the Northern Nigeria to allocate to a land where the school could be located.

Before the Premier could provide the land, a major philanthropist, Alh. Abdu Kwangila provided his home located at Abeokuta/Zaria Road for the school take off, then called (High Society) School.

When the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello gave a land spanning from Ogbomosho Road up till the rail line, covering over 400 square meters as permanent site of the Kaduna high society school, four (4) block of classrooms were built which still stand till today.

With the advent of high society Cigarette in the 1960s, it was discovered that the name (High Society) was not suitable as the school name, the then Grand Khadi, late Sheikh Mahmoud Gumi advised the management of the school to change the name of the school to Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu who is a brother to late Sheikh Uthman bin Fodio.

Among the pioneering pupils were Hamza Ibrahim, Sani Sukola, Sa'idu Dan Akwa, Usman Dudu, Baba Talatu (Gugula), Aminu Katchan, Alabura, Garba Ibrahim, etc.

The School presently comprise of Islamiyya, Tahfeez, Primary, Secondary and College of Higher Islamic Studies and Diploma.

Presently, the school is undergoing its critical moment, as the management is seeking the support and cooperation of all member of the school Alumni and other well wishers to join hands in reinvigorating Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu school to its past glory.
