UWA CHANGES ITS NAME TO KAWAA
A New Name. A Clearer Identity. The Same Vision.
Every great journey evolves, and sometimes, evolution begins with a new name. Universal Writers and Authors (UWA) has taken a significant step forward by adopting a new identity: Kaduna Writers and Authors Association (KAWAA).
The change is not a departure from who we are or what we stand for. Rather, it represents a thoughtful refinement of our identity—one that brings us closer to our roots, strengthens our connection with the literary community in Kaduna, and positions the association for greater impact.
While UWA reflected our broad vision for writers and authors, the word “Universal” presented an administrative challenge during the registration process. In line with the requirements of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), we were advised to remove the word “Universal” and adopt a name that more clearly identifies our geographical scope.
Rather than seeing this as a limitation, we embraced it as an opportunity to build an identity rooted in our immediate community.
Thus, Kaduna Writers and Authors Association (KAWAA) was born.
The new name gives us a distinct identity, connects us directly with the rich literary and creative heritage of Kaduna State, and provides a stronger platform through which writers, authors and literary enthusiasts can come together to read, write, create, learn, collaborate and grow.
KAWAA is not a retreat from our original vision; it is a refinement of that vision. Our ambition remains strong, but our identity is now clearer, more focused and firmly rooted in Kaduna.
