Founded in February 1958, St. John Vianney Minor Seminary, Barkin Ladi, is a Catholic house of formation dedicated to nurturing future priests for the Church. Located near Jos, Plateau State, we provide disciplined, quality education rooted in Catholic values.
While our primary mission is vocational discernment, many parents choose us for the academic excellence and character formation their sons receive. Our multicultural student body lives by the motto: _Pro Ecclesia et Patria_ - “For the Church and Fatherland.”
For 65+ years, our alumni have served as priests, *five of whom have been elevated to the episcopacy, with three still shepherding dioceses today*, as well as scholars, judges, civil servants, and leaders across Nigeria.

Today, the students of St John Vianney Minor Seminary had the privilege of attending the Diaconate Ordination held at Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral, where seven candidates were ordained deacons in the Catholic Church. Among the newly ordained were three distinguished old boys of BLOBA, whose achievement brought great joy and pride to the seminary community. The celebration was spiritually uplifting, filled with prayers, hymns, and reflections on the beauty of God’s call to service in the Church.
The ordination served not only as a celebration but also as an educational and inspiring experience for the students. The diaconate is an important stage in the journey toward priesthood, where a deacon is called to serve God and His people through the proclamation of the Gospel, assistance at the altar, and works of charity. Witnessing former students reach this stage encouraged the seminarians to remain committed to prayer, discipline, and faithful service, while reminding everyone present that answering God’s call requires dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance.
