BISMILLAH RAHMAN RAHEEM
FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR NIGERIAN LEADERS AND THE ENTIRE AFRICAN LEADERS.
He (Umar) may Allah be pleased with him cared about the affairs of his citizens, whether they big or small. He left one night to an area, a remote area of Madinah with his slave Aslam whilst there was a fire burning.
So (Umar) said O Aslam I do not think they are except a convoy that has been hindered by the night and the cold.
So when they reached the place of the fire to his surprise, it was a woman with children, her children were screaming from the pains of hunger.
She placed a pot of water on the fire hoping to sooth and calm the kids by way of it so they would sleep.
Umar said, peace be upon you O people of the light. He disliked to say O people of the fire. “what’s the matter with you and these children that are screaming?”
The woman said”they are screaming /crying from hunger.” Umar said, “ What is in this pot?”
She said, “water to calm them down with, to make them believe that I am making food up until they fall asleep and Allah is between us and Umar”
Umar said may Allah have mercy upon you, “How would Umar know about you?”
She said, “ He takes responsibility of our affairs then neglects us?”
So Umar may Alla be pleased with him cried and left quickly then returned with a sack of flour and a bag of (Animal) fat. He said to Aslam his slave, “put it (the sack of flour and fat) on my back”Aslam said, “I will carry it for you O leader of the believers”
So(Umar) said “Are you(also) going to carry my burden on the day of judgment!?”
Umar carried it until he reached the woman, he began to make the food and blow under the pot(to enlarge the fire) while the smoke was running through his beard, until the food had cooked so thereafter he put down the cooking pot placing the food into a serving plate.
The children then ate to their fill, they then began to laugh and wrestle with one another. The woman said”May Allah reward you on my behalf and you are more deserving of this (Khalifaah) than Umar”
So Umar said to her “say that which is good”.
