History has repeated itself for those who have witnessed it or even read it, Chief Moshood kashimawo Olawale Abiola also and Babagana Kingibe in 1993 were elected as and won the presidency with an overwhelming majority of support from all accross the federation under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), though, the their victory was untimely aborted by the then Military dictator who annulled the mandate of Nigerians, the duo flag bearers of the said party are Yoruba-Kanuri to have defeated Bashir Tofa, a Hausa man from Kano and his running mate Sylvester Ugoh, an Igbo man who was the former governor of the now defunct central Bank of Biafra.
The most interesting thing is that Abiola-Kingibe's movement was a Muslim-Muslim one and have won with overwhelming majority having defeated a Hausa-Igbo and a Muslim-Christain candidature of Bashir Tofa-Sylvester's even in Kano, the home town of Bashir Tofa who were the flag bearers of National Party of Nigeria.
Nigerias weren't after politics of religion then, people were after competence and neither religious or ethnic bigotry just as exhibited in the just concluded general elections, this is a wake up call on all Nigerians to shun whatever differences and embrace peace for the betterment of our dear country, we have no other than. Politics is over, let's forge ahead and wish everyone well.
