The Executive Governor of Adamawa State and Visitor to Adamawa State University, Rt Hon Dr. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the conversion of the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital, Yola, into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital (ADSUTH), marking a major milestone in the advancement of medical education and healthcare delivery in the state.

Following the approval, the Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State, Hon. Awwal D. Tukur, on Thursday, 14th May 2026, inaugurated a Technical Committee to ensure a smooth transition of the Specialist Hospital into a fully operational university teaching hospital.

During the inauguration, Hon. Awwal D. Tukur reaffirmed the commitment of the Adamawa State Government toward the successful establishment of ADSUTH. He emphasized that the initiative reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen the healthcare sector, improve medical education, and provide world-class training facilities for students and healthcare professionals in the state.

He further assured members of the committee of the government’s support and urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to ensure the timely and successful realization of the project.

The committee comprises representatives from Adamawa State University, the Adamawa State Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education, all working collaboratively to actualize the vision of establishing a modern teaching hospital that will meet global standards in medical training, research, and healthcare services.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Prof. Augustine Clement, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his unwavering commitment to educational and healthcare transformation in Adamawa State.

He noted that the establishment of ADSUTH will pave the way for the introduction and expansion of critical medical and health-related programmes, including Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Pharmacy, and other allied medical courses within the university.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the teaching hospital will not only strengthen clinical training and practical exposure for students but will also enhance healthcare delivery, medical research, and professional development across the state and the country at large.

The initiative further reflects the administration’s commitment to positioning Adamawa State University as a center of excellence in medical education, innovation, and community healthcare services in Nigeria.
