NUC Officially Recognises Jigawa Medical University, Federal Government Commends Governor Namadi
Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, has been widely commended following the official recognition of the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences by the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking a major milestone in the state's drive to expand access to quality medical education.
Speaking at the recognition ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, described the establishment of the university as a bold and strategic investment in Nigeria's future. They noted that the institution would play a pivotal role in producing highly skilled healthcare professionals and strengthening the country's health sector.
The two federal officials congratulated Governor Namadi and the people of Jigawa State on the achievement, stating that the new university aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda by expanding opportunities for the training of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals.
Professor Ribadu particularly praised Governor Namadi's foresight and unwavering commitment to human capital development through sustained investment in medical and allied health education. He described the initiative as a significant contribution to addressing Nigeria's healthcare workforce needs while positioning Jigawa State as an emerging centre of excellence in health sciences education.
Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad also applauded the NUC for its commitment to maintaining quality standards across the nation's universities and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education's readiness to work closely with the Jigawa State Government and the Commission to ensure the university grows into a world-class institution.
In his remarks, Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the National Universities Commission for the confidence reposed in Jigawa State through the official recognition of the university.
The Governor described the development as a historic milestone in his administration's commitment to strengthening the health and education sectors, stressing that the university was established to bridge the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals and improve access to quality healthcare services in Jigawa State and Nigeria at large.
Governor Namadi assured that his administration would continue to provide the infrastructure, funding, manpower, and institutional support required for the university to thrive, while maintaining the highest academic standards. He reaffirmed his commitment to building the institution into a leading centre of excellence for medical and allied health education, research, and innovation in Nigeria.
He also called on the university's management, staff, and stakeholders to remain committed to excellence, innovation, and service as they work together to build an institution that will positively impact generations to come.

JSUMAHS Vice-Chancellor Pays Courtesy Visit to Emir of Dutse, Seeks Royal Support for University's Growth
The Vice-Chancellor of Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences (JSUMAHS), Majia, Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani, on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi, to strengthen the University's relationship with the Dutse Emirate and seek the Emir's guidance and support in advancing the institution's vision.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani said he was delighted to be at the Emir's Palace, noting that the visit provided an opportunity to pay homage to the Emir and congratulate him on his recent appointment as the Chancellor of Sokoto State University.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the visit was also aimed at seeking the royal father's support and fatherly guidance in the University's pursuit of academic excellence. He highlighted the mission of JSUMAHS, stating that the institution was established to bridge educational gaps by expanding access to quality medical and allied health sciences education for the people of Jigawa State and beyond.
"Our mission as a university is to bridge the educational gap and expand access to quality medical and allied health sciences education for the youth of Jigawa State and beyond," the Vice-Chancellor said.
He further reiterated the University's commitment to becoming a centre of academic excellence, not only in Jigawa State and Northern Nigeria but across the country.
Professor Mahmoud also commended the Jigawa State Government for its unwavering commitment to developing the University through improved infrastructure, academic programmes, and institutional support.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi, congratulated the University's Principal Officers on their appointments and charged them with the enormous responsibility of building a world-class institution.
The Emir stressed the importance of research and innovation, urging the University to cultivate a strong research culture capable of producing solutions to societal challenges.
"It is not only about producing doctors or professors, but about generating new ideas that will solve the problems of our communities," the Emir stated.
He further encouraged the University to prioritise technology-driven learning, practical training, and research, expressing confidence that such an approach would position JSUMAHS among the leading universities in Nigeria.
The Emir also assured the University Management of the Emirate's continuous support, emphasising that the Palace remains open for meaningful discussions on issues that would promote the growth and development of the institution.
The royal father concluded by commending the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, for the visionary decision to establish Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Majia. He expressed optimism that history would remember both the Governor and the University's Management for their contributions to educational development in the state.
