Golden Jubilee: Kwara NLA Sets for Landmark Conference, AGM In Offa

The Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Kwara State Chapter, is set to mark a historic milestone with its Golden Jubilee celebration, scheduled for 19th–20th November, 2025, at 9am daily at the Academic Boardroom of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa (FEDPOFFA).

The two-day event promises a robust programme aimed at repositioning librarianship in the state and beyond.

Attendees will participate in a Library Week Talk, Pre-conference paper presentations, and a Panel discussion on "Librarianship in the Fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR) Era".

A highlight of the gathering will be the Public Presentation of Compendium of Library and Information Scientists and Educators of in Kwara State, underscoring the contributions of librarians to knowledge management, education, and community development over the past five decades.

Speaking ahead of the event, the organiser emphasised that the conference would provide a platform for knowledge exchange, professional development, and strategic planning for the future of librarianship.

Registration for the Golden Jubilee celebration is now open, inviting librarians, information professionals, and education stakeholders to join in commemorating 50 years of service and excellence.

For us at the Nigerian Library Association - Kwara State, in July 2025, we were shocked at the demise of one of our dedicated members, who gave it her best shot and fought for the survival of not only the profession but also the Association, Mrs. Grace Olabisi Babafemi of University of Ilorin, Nigeria

Her departure was a rude shock to us. Hence, it was difficult to accept the reality of her exit. We are deeply consoled by the testimonies and tribute of friends, family members, colleagues, and neighbours. Christian Wake and Commendation services in her honour were well attended.

The Nigerian Library Association, Kwara State was led by the state Chairman, Dr. (Mrs) Olabisi Ajani of Kwara State University, Malete - KWASU in the team are Joel Afolayan, Mahammuod Sulyman, Mrs. Olabimpe Olani Dr. (Mrs) J. O. Oyeniyi of Ncam Centre and other Librarians and Library Managers.

Commendably, The University Librarian, Professor K. T. Omopupa, Head of LIS Department, Professor Adeyinka Tella, Librarians and Library staffers were supportive.

RETIREMENT ALERT

The executive of the Kwara State chapter of Nigerian Library Association congratulates, celebrates and bids fare well to a former State Chairman, Dr. Razaq F'ẹmi Quadri, as he bows our of active service.

Until his retirement, he was a faculty member of the Department of Library and Information Science, Federal Polytechnic Offa where he also had the opportune time to serve as the Polytechnic Librarian.

As a seasoned librarian, Dr. Quadri was a member of principal officer at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State and a number of other tertiary institution.

He has served as the Chairman, Kwara State Chapter of NLA, National Executive Council and National Treasurer of NLA.

UNIVERSITY DON COMMENDS LIBRARIANS' INNOVATIVE STRIDE, HOSTS CONFERENCE

The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN has commended the innovative Stride of Librarians, who he described as professionals in effective management of institutional and academic knowledge value of all time.

He noted this when the Kwara State executive of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) paid a courtesy call on him ahead of the 49th Conference/AGM held at the University Auditorium, University of Ilorin on December 5, 2024.

While welcoming the team of Librarians on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Professors Olubunmi Abayomi Omotosho was elated at the choice of the 'Better By Far' University for the historic event that focus on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Library Services. He reinstated the assurance of the University's renewed commitment to supporting the information and knowledge management which is the core of University Library and the Association by extension.

In her response, the State Chairman of the Association and Deputy University Librarian, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. (Mrs) Florence Olabisi Ajani appreciated the goodwill extended to the Association by the University management through the University Library and requested for continued collaboration in knowledge sharing.

The event was witnessed by the Vice Chairman, Dr. (Mrs) Suebat Ajoke Busari CLN; Fnancial Secretary, Joel Afolayan CLN; Deputy Rector, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr (Mrs) Mulikat Bola Aliyu CLN; and the Keynote Speaker and University Librarian, Redeemers' University, Nigeria, Dr. Akinniyi Adeleke CLN.

Others there present are the Deputy Voice Chancellor, Research, Technology and Innovation, Professor Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; Deputy Registrar, Dr. Ajao Adelodun Mohammed; Representatives of the Bursar and University Librarian, Mr. Ayanda Samuel and Mrs. Grace O.
