Many students fail or perform below expectation in school not because they're dullards but because of a poor reading culture and inability to code and decode information deduced when analysing a study material.
A student that will excel academically must understand the techniques to effective studying/learning.
I recommend the SQ3R study technique. S- Survey, Q- Question, R- Read, R- Recite/Reproduction, R- Review.
1.Survey: Take a glance at the material you want to study. Do a general survey of the material to be studied.
2. Question: Set a prep-question for yourself base on the survey done.
3. Read: Do the real studying by reading thoroughly through the material to bring out vital points. Don't just read but jot down points.
4. Recite/Reproduction: See if you can remember and reproduce information stored in your brain by reciting and writing them down. This is a sure way to ascertain that the information has not been tampered with or lost on storage.
5. Review: Go over points jotted over and over again and make effort to always ruminate over things learnt from time to time.
Note: A wrong activity embarked upon after studying is capable of erasing information encoded in the brain and the best way to deduce and retain information for a long time is to study when you assimilate the most.
