Students Commemorate Independence Day with Inspirational Class Presentations

In observance of Nigeria’s Independence Day, students at Royal Crescent Valley International School delivered a distinguished presentation during the school assembly on the eve of the national celebration.

As part of this activity, students from each class were instructed to prepare a presentation concerning the history and significance of Nigeria’s Independence Day. Each class appointed a representative to present their work to the entire school community.

These presentations offered an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge, confidence, creativity, and public speaking abilities. The representatives conveyed essential facts about Nigeria’s path to independence, the importance of October 1, and the responsibilities of citizens in fostering national growth and development.

This activity was not only educational but also fostered patriotism and active engagement among students. It served as a reminder that independence extends beyond a historical event; it is also a call for responsibility, unity, exemplary citizenship, and nation-building.

The school commends all participating students and expresses gratitude to the teachers for their guidance in preparing the presentations.

Counselling Programme Begins with Principal's Address on Positive Mindset

The school counselling programme for secondary school students formally commenced with an opening address delivered by the principal, Mrs. Shakirat Ibrahim, under the theme "Changing I can't to I can."

The address focused on character development, academic responsibility, and the importance of cultivating a positive mindset among students. In her remarks, Mrs. Ibrahim emphasized the need for students to believe in themselves, describing self-confidence as a critical foundation for academic and personal success.

She further advised students to remain prepared at all times, both mentally and academically, in order to respond effectively to challenges. The principal also highlighted the importance of seeking assistance when necessary. Students were encouraged to ask for help and clarification without hesitation, noting that doing so strengthens understanding and supports effective learning.

Addressing the subject of failure, Mrs. Ibrahim described setbacks as opportunities for improvement rather than final outcomes. In her words, "failure is not the end of the road." Students were advised to learn from their mistakes and apply those lessons toward better performance.

Another key point of the address was self-awareness. Students were urged to study themselves by identifying their strengths, weaknesses, and learning habits, as this forms the basis for personal growth and responsible decision-making.

The address concluded with a firm reminder on academic discipline, captured in the principal's statement, "make your books your friend." This remark reinforced the importance of consistent study and dedication to learning.

The opening session set a purposeful tone for the counselling programme, conveying a clear message. With self-belief, readiness, guidance, resilience, and commitment to study, students can successfully transform the mindset of "I can't" into "I can."

On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet ﷺ said, *“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”* (Sunan Ibn Mājah 224)

Reflect on how these teachings urge us to pursue knowledge and to share it. When parents guide their children toward beneficial learning, they fulfill a share of this obligation and become a source of goodness for the next generation. May Allah grant us the ability to acquire and impart useful knowledge. Āmīn.
