RE: TWEET ABOUT LECTURERS DEMANDING S*X FROM FEMALE AND MONEY FROM MALE STUDENTS

The attention of Babcock University authorities has been drawn to some tweets making the rounds on some social media platforms.

Mention was made of Babcock University faculty in connection with s*x and cash for grades.

We wish to state in unmistakable terms that one of the lecturers mentioned in the tweets is no longer a staff of Babcock University. His contract with the University was terminated at the end of the 2018/2019 academic session, on grounds that the University viewed with serious concerns because of the University’s hallowed moral and academic values.

We wish also to state clearly and emphatically, that Babcock University has zero tolerance for s*xual harassment and academic infractions of any kind. Therefore, allegations or complaints of s*xual harassment and academic malpractices by any faculty or staff are seriously viewed and thoroughly investigated, while swift, adequate and appropriate actions are taken against the offender, irrespective of his or her position in the University.

Babcock University recognises the need for an environment of academic freedom where students and faculty can exercise their intellectual liberty to create, innovate and contribute to human advancement and the progress of society. Such an atmosphere could only be created with relevant policies, rules and guidelines that are founded on timeless shared values of integrity, accountability and responsibility. Babcock University considers these values germane to its vision and identity. The University will therefore, not gloss over any issues of s*xual harassment of students, or monetary solicitation from students for marks by faculty or staff. The University frowns at such practices as immoral, illegal, unacceptable, and reprehensible.

We again use this opportunity to encourage any person or persons with any such information to bring it to the attention of the University Authorities who have in place vibrant mechanisms to speedily address them with utmost fairness and honesty.

With collective efforts we can build the world and the Babcock of our dream. And, we use this opportunity to thank every student, faculty, and staff for their faith in God, and belief in Babcock University as a dependable training ground for leaders who make a difference in the world.

The future is bright...
