Human Nutrition and Dietetics is a field of study focused on understanding how food and nutrients impact human health. It's a multidisciplinary field that covers topics like the science of nutrition, dietary habits, meal planning, and the role of nutrition in preventing and managing health conditions.

It teaches about the nutritional needs of individuals across different life stages and how to promote healthy eating habits. The goal is to help people to make healthy food choices and provide nutrition counselling.

𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞?

Human nutrition and dietetics is a good course to study, for a few reasons. First, it's a growing field. With the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases like diabetes and obesity, the need for dietitians is expected to grow. Second, it's a versatile field.

Dietitians can work in a variety of settings, like hospitals, schools, and private practice. And third, it's a rewarding field. Dietitians can make a real difference in people's lives by helping them to improve their health. Overall, Human Nutrition is a good course for those interested in positively impacting individuals' health through diet and lifestyle.

𝐃𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧

Nutritionists main duty is to help people eat better for their health. They advise on what to eat, create plans, and teach about balanced nutrition. Whether it's managing health issues, losing or gaining weight, or just staying healthy, they work with individuals to come up with practical and personalized diet strategies. They stay informed about nutrition science to provide the best guidance.

𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

Someone with a degree in Human Nutrition can work in different places, like hospitals as a clinical nutritionist helping patients with their diet, in private practice advising on healthy eating, or in schools teaching about nutrition.

They can also work in gyms creating diet plans for fitness goals or in companies advising on healthy food. Some may do research or help develop new food products. Government jobs working on public health policies or assisting elderly people in long- term care facilities are other possibilities.

POST UTME? What's it all about!!!

The Post UTME screening is an additional test that admission applicants are required to sit for at their institution of choice. Not all institutions conduct Post UTME, but it is a common practice among many of them, and the way it is conducted varies from institution to institution.

The test can be either physical or online, depending on the preference of the institution. If it is physical, you will have to go to your chosen university to sit for it. If it is online, you can take the test from home or any suitable location, preferably using a laptop and a good internet connection. However, it is important to note that online tests are strictly monitored, and any attempt to cheat or use unfair means will result in disqualification.

Both physical and online tests have their advantages and disadvantages, so it is best to consider which option suits you the most.

To be eligible for your institution's Post UTME, you must meet the JAMB cutoff set by your institution. For example, to be eligible for the Unilag Post UTME, you must meet the cutoff mark of 200 set by Unilag.

To apply for the Post UTME, you usually have to do it online. You will be required to fill out a form and upload your O-level results, as applicable. However, the forms are not always available online. Your institution will set specific dates for the release of the form, and you can apply within that timeframe. You can stay updated about the availability of the forms through platforms like Jamb Prime.

The number of questions, overall marks, and time allotted for the Post UTME vary from institution to institution. Here are a few examples:

🚀Unilag sets 40 questions with a total mark of 30 and a time duration of 30 minutes. The subjects are Mathematics, Use of English, and General Knowledge for all candidates.

🚀Unilorin sets 50 questions with a total mark of 100 and a time duration of 30 minutes. The subjects are Use of English (40 questions), Mathematics (5 questions), and General Paper (5 questions) for all candidates.

🚀UI sets 100 questions with a total mark of 100 and a time duration of 90 minutes. The subjects are the four UTME subjects, with 25 questions each.

🚀Uniben sets 50 questions with a total mark of 100 and a time duration of 50 minutes. The subjects are the four UTME subjects.

🚀OAU sets 40 questions with a total mark of 40 and a time duration of 60 minutes. The subjects are the three UTME subjects and an aptitude test (Use of English and General Knowledge).

🚀ABU sets 60 questions with a time duration of 60 minutes. The subjects are the four UTME subjects, with 15 questions per subject.

🚀Unical sets 40 questions with a time duration of 30 minutes. The subjects are the four UTME subjects and general knowledge questions.

🚀UNN sets 60 questions with a total score of 400 and a time duration of 60 minutes. The subjects are the four UTME subjects, with 17 questions each. However, candidates can only answer their preferred 15 questions.

In conclusion, the Post UTME test is an added advantage for those who score well on it, as it boosts their overall aggregate point. It is important to prepare well for the Post UTME, as it is not a difficult test if you are properly prepared. Do not rely solely on your UTME score; work hard for your Post UTME as well. Many students with high UTME scores have been denied admission due to poor Post UTME results. Utilize the Post UTME to your advantage, especially if your UTME score is not very high.

Let me give you an example: If two candidates apply for UI admission, one with a score of 300 and the other with a score of 260. If the candidate with 300 scores 60 in the Post UTME and the candidate with 260 scores 70 in the Post UTME, both of them will have the same total aggregate of 67.5. That is why it is crucial to make good use of the Post UTME opportunity.

Candidates who have completed the Post UTME, meet the cutoff points, and fulfill other institution requirements will be officially admitted through their CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System).
