Breaking News:
Nigeria's Fourth Republic Turns 27

At last, constitutional democracy has taken root in Nigeria! Available evidence suggested that the political elites have come of age and are willing to govern the public space.

The earlier three republics were characterized by unhealthy rivalry, succession disputes, economic malfeasance, envy, intolerance and lack of maturity among politicians. These republics were:

1st Republic (Oct 1, 1960 to May 29, 1967)
2nd Republic (Oct 1, 1979 to Sept 30, 1983)
3rd Republic. (Oct 1, 1983 to Dec 31, 1983)

Owing to persistent clamour for change from citizens within and outside the country, the military gave way to civil rule even though the military itself has not done better than its civilian counterpart.

The major actors/leaders of the military era (post war) were:

Buhari/Idiagbon (1984 to August 27, 1985)
Babangida (1985 to August 23, 1993)
Abacha (Nov 17, 1993 to July 1998)
Abubakar (1998 to May 28, 1999)

General Abdulsalam Abubakar led his ruling military council to midwife the return to civil rule. This singular act brought relief to Nigerians who were bored by high handedness, human right abuses and lack of accountability by the military.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by President Olusegun Obasanjo defeated other political parties and their respective flag bearers and presidential candidates to assume leadership of the country effective May 29, 1999.

Change of batons at election cycles within parties have been seemless so also from one party to another.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) took over the national leadership when the former ruling PDP was defeated in the 2023 general elections after sixteen years' dominance.

Nigeria has now enjoyed twenty-seven years of unbroken democratic governance. Thanks to Almighty God for making things happen and encomium poured out to the political elites who have avoided the mistakes of the previous republics.

JESUS IS COMING BACK AGAIN! HALLELUJAH!

In Saint John 1:1-3, the holy scriptures unveiled Jesus that "In the beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. This one was in the beginning with God. All things came into existence through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into existence."

Jesus is God Himself who translated into human form in order to live a life semblance to man so He could die for the iniquities of man and thus set the mortals free from the clutches of Satan and eternal damnation.

In Saint John 14:1-3, Jesus was heard telling His disciples and followers saying, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God, exercise faith also in me. In the house of my Father there are many abodes. Otherwise, I would have told you, because I am going my way to prepare a place for you. Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you home to myself, that where I am you also may be."

In the Acts of Apostles, the scriptures recorded in chapter 1 verses 9 to 11 that "And after He had said these things, while they were looking on, He was lifted up and a cloud caught Him up from their vision. And as they were gazing into the sky while He was on His way, also, look! two men in white garments stood alongside them, and they said: "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who was received up from you into the sky will come thus in the same manner as you have beheld Him going into the sky."

An old Scripture Union chorus says,

He is coming back again 2x
Oh glory, Hallelujah!
He is coming back again 3x
Oh glory, Hallelujah!
He is coming back again.

Without mincing words, the Lord will come back again!

The question now is what purpose will His coming back achieve? Revelation 22:12 shed light on the aims of the second coming. The scriptures say, "Look! I am coming quickly, and the reward I give is with me, to render to each one as his work is."

At the tomb of Lazarus in Saint John 11:25-26, "Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all."

Saint John 3:16 says, "For God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in Him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."

Verse 18 of John chapter 3 says, "He that exercises faith in Him is not to be judged. He that does not exercise faith has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Verse 36 of John chapter 3 says, "He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; he that disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him."

From the above, everyone who accepts Jesus as his or her Lord and Saviour has the reward of eternal life and such souls shall reign with Him in His Kingdom according to the Book of Revelation 20:6.

The souls of the people who did not exercise faith in Jesus Christ were not found in the Book of Life and were hurled into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15.

This is the word of God and everyone reading this piece is encouraged to accept Jesus and exercise faith in Him. Shalom!
