📰 Nigeria’s First Olympic Gold Medalist, 🇳🇬Chioma Ajunwa, joins Biopanda Delegation to LASUCOM on Clinical Innovation Partnership

A delegation from Biopanda Rapid Diagnostics, which included Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medalist and Biopanda Ambassador, Chioma Ajunwa, paid a courtesy and strategic partnership visit to LASUCOM on Tuesday, 19 May 2026 to strengthen collaboration in clinical innovation, diagnostics and medical research.

The delegation included Dr. Angela Okemena Unufe-Kennedy, Biopanda Business Development Partner, and other members of the company’s team, who met with the Provost and representatives of the College’s Biomedical Laboratory and Neurology Discipline.

Welcoming the delegation, the Provost of LASUCOM, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, reaffirmed the College’s commitment to partnerships that advance scientific research, improve patient care and strengthen healthcare delivery.

He noted that LASUCOM remains committed to creating an enabling environment for medical research and innovation.

“At LASUCOM, we continue to encourage collaborations that promote clinical excellence, research development and technological advancement in healthcare. Partnerships such as this are important in positioning the College as a hub for impactful medical innovation,” the Provost said.

The Provost further commended members of the Neurology team, including Dr. Adebusola Shakunle, for sustaining research-driven initiatives that continue to project the College positively within the healthcare and academic community

Speaking during the engagement, the Biopanda team commended LASUCOM for its growing reputation in clinical research, innovation and evidence-based medical practice, noting that the College continues to distinguish itself in advancing healthcare solutions in Nigeria.

The team also acknowledged the level of acceptance and use of Biopanda diagnostic products within the institution, describing the partnership as one with strong potential for wider national and global impact.

The visit focused on strengthening collaboration between the College and Biopanda, particularly in rapid diagnóstic technology and research support.

It further explored opportunities for future research collaborations, especially in addressing diagnostic challenges in neurological care and other emerging areas of medicine.

The engagement represents another milestone in LASUCOM’s growing network of institutional partnerships aimed at promoting research, technological advancement and improved healthcare solutions.

📰 LASUCOM Faculty of Pharmacy Assess Progress of New Annex in Yaba.

Staff members of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), on Wednesday 20th May, 2026 embarked on an inspection visit to Yaba to assess the level of progress on the ongoing construction of the College’s new annex designated to house the Faculty upon completion.

The inspection tour is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the developing facility aligns with the academic, administrative and infrastructural needs of the Faculty and regulatory standards as the College continues to expand its teaching and research capacity.

During the visit, members of staff were taken round key sections of the project site by the College Engineer, Engr. K.O Odusanmi alongside members of his engineering team to observe the pace and quality of work being carried out on the structure.

The team expressed satisfaction with the steady progress recorded so far, while also commending the commitment of all parties involved in the ex*****on of the project.

During the tour, the engineering team highlighted key components of the facility, including lecture spaces, administrative offices, conference room, laboratories and other essential academic support areas.

These put together are expected to enhance teaching, learning and research activities within the Faculty of Pharmacy that shall in turn create a conducive academic environment for staff and students

Also present during the inspection was the Head of ICT, Mr. Richard Arogunjo, whose presence underscored the College’s commitment to integrating modern technological infrastructure into the new annex to support digital learning and smart educational systems.

The construction of the new Faculty of Pharmacy annex aligns with the broader vision of the College management under the leadership of the Provost, Prof. Olufemi Idowu to hasten the expansion of institutional infrastructure in order to generally strengthen academic programmes within the College and contribute significantly to the advancement of pharmaceutical education and training in line with global standards.

📰 LASUCOM Reaffirms Commitment to Preventive Healthcare as Lifestyle Medicine Delegation Visits College

The Provost of the College, *Prof. Olufemi Idowu*, has reaffirmed the College’s commitment to *preventive healthcare and healthy living*, following a courtesy and advocacy visit by the Society of Lifestyle Medicine of Nigeria (SOLONg) on Monday 18th May, 2026.

Professor Idowu gave the assurance while receiving a delegation led by the President of the Society of Lifestyle Medicine of Nigeria (SOLONg), Dr. Moyosore Makinde.

“Lifestyle Medicine thrives on a multidisciplinary approach, and collaboration among different healthcare professionals is essential to improving health outcomes and strengthening public health awareness,” Professor Olufemi Idowu said.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Makinde described Lifestyle Medicine as a relatively new field under Family Medicine that embraces different disciplines in healthcare and focuses on preventive, evidence-based approaches to managing diseases through healthy lifestyle practices.

She explained that Lifestyle Medicine utilises low-cost, sustainable and scientifically proven methods to prevent, treat and in some cases, reverse chronic diseases through healthy daily habits and team-based care.

The visit formed part of activities marking the 2026 Global Lifestyle Medicine Week, with SOLONg engaging LASUCOM to promote the role of lifestyle medicine in improving public health and preventing disease.

As part of the activities for the week, the Lifestyle Medicine Unit of LASUTH will host an awareness walk and dance exercise in collaboration with the Department of Community Health tomorrow Wednesday 20th May around LASUTH, alongside workplace wellness demonstrations at the MRC Auditorium involving the Departments of Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Psychiatry.

Global Lifestyle Medicine Week is commemorated annually to promote healthier living and encourage individuals and institutions to adopt proactive healthcare practices through simple but impactful lifestyle choices.

📰LASUCOM Hosts Ilera Eko Enforcement Team Over Compliance With State Health Insurance Scheme

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, hosted officials of the Ilera Eko Enforcement Agency who visited the College to assess the level of compliance with the Lagos State Government Executive Order on the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.

The enforcement team was led by Mrs. Funmilayo Owolabi of the Office of Parastatals Monitoring, Office of the Governor, Lagos State, and was accompanied by representatives of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRAA), Lagos State Taskforce, and the Ministry of Wealth Creation.

The team was received by the College Management represented by the DR, Provost Office - Mr. Babajide Sanni, alongside the LASUCOM Lagos Health Insurance Scheme (LHIS) Officer, Dr. (Mrs.) Abosede Shiro.

During the meeting, discussions centred on the implementation of the Ilera Eko Scheme within the College, as well as challenges being experienced by members of staff and students in accessing healthcare services under the scheme.

The enforcement team disclosed that the enforcement for salary stoppage had already commenced at the state level for workers yet to enroll in the health insurance scheme and noted that similar enforcement measures may soon take effect within the College community.

Speaking during the engagement, the officials commended LASUCOM for its efforts and level of coordination in handling Ilera Eko matters within the institution.

They, however, stressed that there was still room for improvement, particularly in ensuring wider participation and compliance among staff members.

The visit also provided an avenue for LASUCOM representatives to highlight some of the operational challenges encountered by enrollees and seek further collaboration towards improving service delivery for beneficiaries of the scheme.

📰 LASUCOM Receives Three UHD Smart Interactive Boards Donation from FirstBank

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has received three units of 82-inch Ultra High Definition (UHD) Smart Interactive Whiteboards from FirstBank of Nigeria, in support of the College’s drive to strengthen digital learning and improve technology-enabled teaching.

The donation was presented on Thursday, 14 May 2026 at the College.

The brief ceremony was attended by the Provost of LASUCOM, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, the Deputy Provost, Prof. Sunday Soyemi, the Financial Controller, Dr. (Mrs.) Oyende, and the College Secretary, Ms. A. S. Fagbenro.

The items were presented by officials from FirstBank led by Ms. Adedayo Popoola, Relationship Manager, Public Sector Directorate, FBN Lagos.

The gesture followed LASUCOM’s request for support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to advance its Digital Process Project, an initiative designed to bolster digital infrastructure and enhance learning experiences across the institution.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Olufemi Idowu described the donation as “timely and impactful” noting that the interactive boards would significantly enhance teaching delivery, improve student engagement and support the College’s goal of strengthening technology-driven medical education.

In its official communication approving the support, FirstBank stated that the donation reflects its dedication to education and innovation, expressing confidence that the smart interactive boards would improve instructional delivery at LASUCOM.

FirstBank further reaffirmed its commitment to the success of LASUCOM and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to partner with the College in advancing educational development through technology.

The newly donated UHD Smart Interactive Whiteboards are expected to support interactive teaching, digital presentations, collaborative learning, and improved classroom engagement in the College.

📰 MLSCN Commends LASUCOM’s Curriculum, Faculty Expertise After Resource Verification Exercise

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has expressed satisfaction with the quality of the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) programme at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), citing particularly the strength of its curriculum and the depth of faculty expertise as key indicators of academic standard.

Speaking during the exit meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello mni, NPOM on Tuesday, 21st April, 2026 at the Main Campus in Ojo, the Leader of the team, Prof. Sonny Johnbull Ogboi, said the panel was impressed with critical aspects of the programme, noting that they reflect the University’s commitment to maintaining high standards in Medical Laboratory Science education.

In the exit meeting that signaled the conclusion of a (2) two-day resource verification exercise, the team presented its final report to Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who commended the panel for what she described as an “objective and thorough assessment”.

During the exercise, the MLSCN team reviewed key components of the programme, including admission requirements, academic regulations, course content, and student–staff ratios.

The team also interacted with students and inspected laboratories within the college as well as laboratories in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), the affiliate hospital used for clinical training.

The resource verification exercise is part of the Council’s statutory mandate to ensure that medical laboratory science programmes across Nigerian universities meet required standards for accreditation and professional training.

The outcome of the exercise is expected to further guide the development of the BMLS programme at LASUCOM, as the institution continues to strengthen its academic offerings in line with national regulatory benchmarks.

📰MDCN Urges Ethical Discipline as 17 LASUCOM Inductees Join Medical, Dental Profession

Seventeen newly inducted doctors of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) have been charged to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct as they formally entered medical practice, with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) stressing that their actions will be under constant scrutiny from the moment of induction.

The charge was delivered on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, during the induction ceremony for the second batch of the 19th and 9th Set of Graduating LASUCOM doctors and dentists.

Representing the Registrar of MDCN, Dr. Fatima Kyari, Dr. Abdul Enejo told the inductees that admission into the medical profession comes with both privilege and responsibility, stressing that their conduct would be closely monitored from the outset.

“You are stepping into a world full of privileges, and you must be aware of the responsibilities and expected conduct attached to it. The Council is very interested in that conduct, and it begins immediately upon your induction,” he stated.

He further urged the new professionals to uphold the integrity of the profession at all times.

“You are constantly under scrutiny to uphold the integrity the profession demands. Do not put a bullseye on yourself with conduct that is unbecoming of the profession,” he added.

Dr. Enejo also noted that the inductees would be guided by the Code of Medical Ethics, which outlines expectations regarding their relationships with patients, colleagues, society, and other healthcare professionals.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, congratulated the newly inducted doctors and dentists on the successful completion of their rigorous training, describing their induction as a testament to their resilience, discipline, and commitment to the medical profession.

He expressed optimism about the College’s continued growth and development, revealing plans to double its admission quota in the near future as part of efforts to expand training capacity and contribute more significantly to addressing the nation’s healthcare needs.

He also encouraged the inductees to be worthy ambassadors of the institution, upholding its values of excellence and professionalism in their practice

In his solemn goodwill message to the new doctors, the Deputy Provost – Prof. Sunday Soyemi advised the new doctors to remain humble and continuously seek guidance from senior colleagues as they begin their professional journey.

Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Stephen Ikuerowo, alongside the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Louis Ajunoma, and the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Prof. Akinbami Akinsegun, delivered a unified message urging the inductees to adhere strictly to the medical code of ethics and avoid arrogance in practice.

📰 LASU Holds NYSC Pre-Mobilisation Sensitisation for LASUCOM Final-Year Students

Final-year students of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) have been adequately prepared for the transition into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme following a pre-mobilisation sensitisation programme organised by the Students’ Affairs Division of Lagos State University (LASU).

The programme, held on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at the Medical Sciences Building Auditorium, served as a platform for prospective corps members to receive first-hand guidance on mobilisation procedures and other critical requirements for national service.

Officials from LASU and the NYSC provided lectures and practical explanations aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of the mobilisation process, including the online registration system and necessary documentation.

Speaking at the event, the Dean of the Students’ Affairs Division, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, who led the LASU delegation, urged the students to take full advantage of the programme.

He noted that a proper understanding of the NYSC processes would help prospective corps members avoid avoidable errors during registration and mobilisation.

“Our students should reflect the University’s rising reputation and prestige,” he said, adding that diligence and attention to detail remain essential throughout the NYSC exercise.

Delivering a detailed presentation, the Assistant Director of Deployment and Relocation, NYSC Lagos, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Davidson, outlined the NYSC scheme comprehensively.

Her session covered the history and structure of the programme, step-by-step online registration procedures, call-up letter management, and the documentation required for successful mobilisation. She also explained exemption and exclusion criteria, as well as conditions for remobilisation.

Mrs. Davidson further highlighted the four cardinal programmes that mark the NYSC service year like Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and Winding-Up/Passing Out thereby offering students clear insight into what to expect during their service.

Other NYSC officials also delivered additional sessions focused on practical guidance for navigating the NYSC online portal. Students were taken through common registration challenges, including technical issues and bio-data-related problems, with explanations on how to resolve them. The programme also addressed concerns relating to admissions and data discrepancies.

Earlier, the Head of the Students’ Affairs Division, Mrs. A.O. Abisuga, welcomed the NYSC officials and commended LASUCOM’s consistent record of successful mobilisation. She attributed the success to the College’s structured approach to NYSC processes.

📰 LASUCOM INAUGURATES NEW STUDENT BODY LEADERSHIP AS 19TH LASUMSA AND 5TH LASUADS EXECUTIVES EMERGE

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), on Friday, April 10, 2026, witnessed a smooth transition of student leadership as newly elected executives and senate representatives of the Lagos State University Medical Students’ Association (LASUMSA) and the Lagos State University Association of Dental Students (LASUADS) were officially inaugurated.

The ceremony, which marked the end of the 18th LASUMSA and 4th LASUADS administrations and the commencement of their 19th and 5th cohorts respectively, was presided over by the Provost of LASUCOM, Professor Olufemi Idowu, who was represented by the Deputy Provost, Professor Sunday Soyemi.

In his address, the Provost commended the outgoing executives for their service, noting that the College Management enjoyed a productive working relationship with them throughout their tenure. He expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly elected leaders, stating that the management expects nothing short of excellence from the incoming administration.

Reflecting on their time in office, the outgoing Presidents of LASUMSA, Mayowa Shekoni, and LASUADS, Ososanya Samuel, described their leadership journey, which began on March 18, 2025, as both “jolly and eventful.” They emphasized that leadership is ultimately defined by impact, urging the new executives to remain focused on delivering meaningful service to their constituents.
