💙 | World Diabetes Day 2019

Some moments remind us why we do what we do.

In 2019, ECFFaHR took to the streets of Ibaram-Akoko in Ondo State and its neighboring communities to commemorate World Diabetes Day through awareness, health education, and free medical screening.

The day began with a road walk, creating awareness about diabetes and encouraging residents to take charge of their health. We later gathered at the palace of the Olubaram of Ibaram-Akoko for a health talk on diabetes prevention, healthy living, and the importance of routine health checks.

Community members also benefited from:
🩺 Blood sugar screening
❤️ Blood pressure checks
📏 Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment
👨🏽‍⚕️ Medical consultations and health counselling

For many participants, this was their first blood sugar and blood pressure check. Some discovered they were living with high blood sugar or hypertension without knowing it.

Early detection gave them the opportunity to seek medical care before complications developed.

Moments like these remind us why community outreach matters.

Access to preventive healthcare should never depend on where you live.

As we look back, we remain committed to bringing health education, preventive care, and life-saving interventions closer to the communities that need them most.

Today, we celebrate the values of unity, participation, and the shared responsibility of building a nation where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

At EBMAN Centre for Food and Health Research (ECFFaHR), we believe that a healthy democracy flourishes when people are informed, empowered, and cared for.

As we mark this day, may we continue to work together towards a healthier, stronger, and more inclusive Nigeria.

Today, we look back on one of our earliest health education outreaches held on 29th October 2015 at All Saints Anglican Church, Auga Akoko, Ondo State.

The Children's Health Seminar, themed "How to Be a Healthy Child," brought together children from the community of Auga Akoko to learn practical habits for healthy living 😊

Topics covered included:
🪥 Proper oral hygiene and tooth care
🧼 Personal cleanliness and handwashing
🥗 Healthy eating habits
💧 The importance of drinking clean water
🏃 Physical activity and healthy lifestyles

The children participated in songs, games, puzzles, health talks, and received oral kits to encourage healthy habits.

Looking back, we are reminded that health education remains one of the most powerful tools for prevention.

What started with a small group of children in 2015 continues today through our commitment to health education, screenings, research, and community outreach.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey since the beginning 🙏 ❤️
