*Tips to Kick Bad Habits in Ramadan*
Few things are more demanding than eliminating bad habits, since they are part of our daily routines and personality. It takes days of patience and practice to break old habits.
However, the good news is, Ramadan offers a perfect and natural environment for moral training. Interestingly, researches from “positive psychology” (scientific study of successful people) have repeatedly shown it takes 30 days to kick a bad habit and develop a new one.
In addition to the physical discipline in the 30-day boot camp of Ramadan, the increased spiritual exercise and connection with Allah Ta'ala, can transform your habits for life.
Try these proven techniques for a successful positive change in your habits (during Ramadan and beyond!):
*1️⃣ Acknowledge and identify your bad habits:* First step is to admit you need to change. If you are in a state of denial, you won’t recognize that you have a bad habit to change.
*2️⃣ Pick a habit for 30 days:* Prioritize your bad habits and focus on one for 30 days. Take a 30-day trial to re-condition your habits. If you are committed to changing at least one habit every month, you will see remarkable results, Insha’Allah.
*3️⃣ Strategize* : Look at all the things that might prevent you from breaking your habit and try and find a way around them, for example if you want to get up for Fajr, then look at the things that will prevent you from waking up, eg,
-switching off your alarm clock and going back to sleep , for that you can put your clock away from you so that you will have to get out of bed to turn it off
*4️⃣ Remember, Allah loves those who commit mistakes and repent* : Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Uopn Him) said:
“ *By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.”* (Muslim 2749)
For whoever might misread this, this is it's meaning;
In Islaam, there are many things Muslims are prohibited to do. Like eating riba (usury, interest of all kinds), eating dog and pork, gambling, investing in a business with a startic ROI (which Islaam describes as a form of riba as well) and many other limitations.
Selling of dogs or cats and alcohol is prohibited too. Working in any institution that makes their earning from these, even if one isn't directly involved, like writing for a p**n company, or a riba company and helping them to broadcast or create contents is prohibited in Islaam.
Non Muslims do these and make it big and these things are big industries in today's world. Their religion didn't limit them. Or at least, Muslims take more caution on religious issues.
But Muslims have limitations on what to eat or do business with or even make money from.
A lady was announced yesterday to quit her 300,000 (three hundred thousand naira)/monthly job, because the company decided to diversify into gambling. She quitted without alternative on ground. She's my Facebook friend.
A brother here in Ilorin here, whom I know very well, got a job to create content for a “marketing” company to be paid 3,000 USD monthly. That's almost 1.7 million NGN (naira).
He later found out the company is a p**n industry.
He didn't proceed to start even. A non-Muslim will find no issue in these, since he's not directly the one involved.
This is where our limitations is and this is what ALLAAH is telling not to allow get into our heads and that we shouldn't allow it deceive us. It is just a little enjoyment.
I hope this message is understood.
May ALLAAH ease our affairs.
