TASFUED MANAGEMENT RAISES CONCERN AS FLOOD HITS TASFUED INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Management of Tai Solarin Federal University International School, Igbeba, Ogun State, raised an alarm over severe flooding that submerged parts of the School following a heavy rainfall, calling for urgent intervention from Ogun State Government and Ijebu-Ode Local Government.

The appeal came during an on-the-spot assessment by the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oladipo,MNPA ,CMCPN, MCAN, FIELPN to evaluate the extent of damage caused by the flood and determine its immediate causes.

Briefing the University team, the Principal of the School, Mrs Adebola Omoyele, attributed the flooding to the blockage of a drainage channel allegedly caused by the er****on of a concrete cover on a culvert by the owner of a nearby block manufacturing company.

According to her, the obstruction, compounded by the filling of the drainage with sand, which prevented the free flow of water during the downpour, resulting in floodwater overrunning the school premises.

The flood reportedly disrupted academic activities and heightened concerns over the safety of students and staff as classrooms, walkways and access routes within the School were inundated.

During the inspection, members of the University Management observed the affected drainage infrastructure and expressed concern over what they described as a preventable environmental hazard.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor described the development as unfortunate and avoidable, particularly in an academic environment where the welfare and safety of learners should remain paramount.

He assured members of the School Community that the University Management would engage relevant Government authorities and stakeholders in ensuring a lasting solution to the problem and prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, residents and stakeholders in the area have also called for urgent intervention to restore proper drainage around the school, warning that continued obstruction of waterways could worsen environmental and safety risks.
