OSPOHAS MARKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH PRAISE AND WORSHIP

The Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu, marked its 50th Anniversary with a special praise and worship session.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Governing Council, Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaye, SAN, congratulated members of staff on the institution’s golden milestone and appreciated their contributions to the growth and development of OSPOHAS.

The Rector, Dr. Rasaki Yinka Akinbo, also expressed gratitude to members of staff for their dedication, commitment and support throughout the institution’s remarkable journey.

The session was a beautiful moment of thanksgiving and reflection as the Polytechnic community came together to celebrate 50 years of service, knowledge and impact.

As the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu, celebrates its 50th Anniversary, the Rector, Dr. Rasaki Yinka Akinbo, celebrates this remarkable milestone with the entire Polytechnic community and our valued stakeholders.

OSPOHAS AT 50!

The Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu, marks its 50th anniversary, celebrating five decades of service, knowledge and impact in education and professional development.

From 41 students to a Polytechnic of Health. From a temporary site to a growing institution. From 1976 to 2026 — what a remarkable journey!

Established on 28 September 1976 as the Ogun State School of Health Technology during the Military Administration of Colonel Saidu Balogun, the institution began at a temporary site in Itamogiri, between Ijebu-Imushin and Ijebu-Ife, with just 41 students enrolled in Public Health Superintendent and Rural Health Assistant programmes.

In 1982, the institution moved to its permanent site at Ilese-Ijebu, where it has continued to grow and expand.

Over the years, the institution evolved with the changing needs of the health sector, expanding its programmes and training generations of professionals. In 2006, the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, upgraded the institution from a School to a College of Health Technology.

Another defining chapter came on 15 February 2023, when the His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun signed the bill upgrading the College to a Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences into law.

The transition was formally affirmed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in its letter dated 10 December 2025, marking a historic milestone as Nigeria’s first Polytechnic of Health.

Today, under the leadership of the pioneer Rector, Dr. Rasaki Yinka Akinbo, OSPOHAS stands at the threshold of a new era of academic growth, innovation and expanded professional training.

As we celebrate 50 years of service, knowledge and impact, we honour the people and milestones that have shaped our story — and look forward to the possibilities that lie ahead.

Books That Open Doors: OSPOHAS Receives Educational Resources from Books2Africa

We recently received a collection of educational books from Books2Africa, a gesture that adds more resources to the Polytechnic’s library and gives our students and staff access to a wider range of materials for learning and research.

More than just books arriving on our shelves, the donation is an opportunity to encourage reading, broaden knowledge and support the academic journey of members of the OSPOHAS community.

For an institution where learning and professional development are at the heart of what we do, having access to relevant books and other learning materials remains important. Each new book creates another opportunity for a student to discover something new, deepen their understanding of a subject or simply develop a stronger interest in reading.

The Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Olufumilola Olorunkalu, expressed appreciation to Books2Africa for the donation. She noted that the books would be useful to both students and staff and further enrich the resources available in the Polytechnic Library.

The Chairman, Governing Council, Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaye, SAN, also commended the Management of the Polytechnic led by Dr Rasaki Yinka Akinbo for attracting initiatives that add value to the institution. He appreciated Books2Africa for the thoughtful gesture and its contribution towards supporting learning and academic development at OSPOHAS.

For the Management, the donation is another welcome addition to the institution’s efforts to create an environment where students have the resources they need to learn, grow and prepare for their chosen careers.

And as these books settle into the library, their real journey is only beginning. They will be picked up, opened, studied, discussed and perhaps inspire ideas that go far beyond the pages in which they were first written.

Because sometimes, a book is not just a book. It is an opportunity.
