Its mid-week and we are reading 'The Red Pencil' by Andrea Davis Pinkney.
The book talks about Amira, a young Sudanese girl who knows nothing beyond her village her entire life. However, after that village is attacked by radicals, Amira and her family fled to a refugee camp. In the new refugee camp they inhabit, Amira begins to find hope that she will finally be able to pursue an education. Her hope and wishes are only further encouraged when a village elder provides her with a red pencil – a symbol of her education and desires.

Join us this holiday season as we support children in remote communities with literacy resources.
Our focus is to help children discover the joy of reading as literacy can boost children's ability and allow them to reach their fullest potential. As such, our team is reaching out to underserved schools and marginalized children to support them with literacy books and literacy packs to foster this love.
