ABINUGBOLA PARTNERS AAPOLY ON INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
…to build Entrepreneurial Centre as part of efforts to give back to alma mater
In a remarkable gesture of goodwill and commitment to educational advancement, Alhaji (Chief) Lawal Ayokunle Ibrahim, popularly known as Abinugbola, has pledged to partner with Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu-Igbo, on infrastructural development, beginning with the construction of a modern Entrepreneurial Centre for the institution.
The project, according to Alhaji Lawal, who is an alumnus of the polytechnic, former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, and the Olu-Omo designate of Ijebu-Igbo Kingdom, is part of his ongoing efforts to give back to the institution that played a formative role in his life. He reaffirmed this commitment during a meeting with the polytechnic’s management team held in the Rector’s Office on Thursday, 16th October 2025.
Welcoming Alhaji Lawal and the Management team to the meeting, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Mobolaji A. Onasanya expressed delight at the philanthropist’s visit, noting that the gathering was convened to formalise discussions on his proposed infrastructural project for the institution. Dr. Onasanya described the gesture as “a timely and noble intervention” that aligns with the institution’s drive to strengthen entrepreneurial education and practical learning.
Speaking during the meeting, Alhaji Lawal emphasised that the proposed Entrepreneurial Centre is only the beginning of several developmental projects he intends to execute at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic. He assured the management that the structure would be completed within a short period, adding that his motivation stemmed from a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility to his alma mater.
“This institution contributed immensely to shaping who I am today. It is only proper that I give back in a way that will empower the next generation of innovators and leaders,” he stated.
In her goodwill remark, the Deputy Rector of the institution, Dr. S.T. Akindele, lauded Alhaji Lawal for his humility and sense of purpose, commending him for not forgetting his roots. She also appealed to him to help reach out to other well-to-do alumni of the institution, encouraging them to emulate his example by investing in the institution’s development.
“We are proud of you, and we hope that other alumni will be inspired to follow your path by donating structures and facilities that may even be named in honour of their families,” Dr. Akindele remarked.
The Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. K.O. Ogunbote, commended Alhaji Lawal’s magnanimity and described his gesture as both inspiring and exemplary. Drawing on the popular phrase “as Oliver Twist,” Dr. Ogunbote appealed to him to consider including a 250-seater lecture hall alongside the Entrepreneurial Centre. In his response, Alhaji Lawal promised to look into the request and assured the management that he would not relent in supporting the institution’s infrastructural growth.
On behalf of the management, the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Akimat Ogunneye, presented a letter of appreciation and the structural plan of the proposed Entrepreneurial Centre to Alhaji Lawal. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for his benevolent gesture and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting the successful completion of the project.
The meeting, attended by the management team of the polytechnic, ended with prayers offered by the Acting Bursar, Mr. Ibikunle Idowu, who prayed for divine guidance, prosperity, and strength for Alhaji Lawal and the entire management team as they work towards actualising the development plans for the institution.
The proposed Entrepreneurial Centre, when completed, is expected to serve as a hub for innovation, skill acquisition, and business incubation, thus providing students with practical training to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world enterprise.
With this partnership, Alhaji Lawal Ayokunle Ibrahim, fondly called Abinugbola, continues to etch his name in the annals of AAPOLY’s history as a distinguished alumnus dedicated to the advancement of education and community development.
*AAPOLY FLAGS OFF SIWES ORIENTATION, PREPARES ND 2 STUDENTS FOR INDUSTRIAL TRAINING*
The atmosphere at Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu-Igbo, was filled with anticipation on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, as National Diploma (ND 2) students gathered at the Science Complex of the institution's main campus for the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) orientation programme. The event, which commenced at exactly noon, was organised in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Ogun State Zonal Office, Abeokuta, to equip students with the right mindset, skills, and safety awareness before embarking on their six-month industrial attachment.
In his welcome address, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Mobolaji A. Onasanya described SIWES as one of the most critical aspects of a student’s academic journey.
“SIWES is not just a programme; it is your bridge to the world of work. What you learn here in the classroom will be tested in real-life situations. Take this exercise seriously, conduct yourselves responsibly, and make AAPOLY proud wherever you are posted,” he charged the students.
The Rector also appreciated the ITF team for their long-standing support in ensuring that Aapoly students receive proper orientation and guidance before stepping into the industrial space.
Representing the ITF Area Manager, Mrs. Bolanle Ajibade, was Mr. Solomon Oyedokun, Head of Finance and Accounts, Ogun State Zonal Office. He commended the Polytechnic for its dedication to student development and reminded participants of ITF’s mandate to prepare Nigerian students for the workplace.
“We are here to ensure that you are adequately prepared, not just to learn, but to contribute meaningfully to the organisations you will be attached to,” Oyedokun stated.
The orientation exercise was divided into two sessions. The first session, handled by Oyedokun and Ms. Cynthia Otuwarikpo, SIWES Officer, covered essential areas such as documentation, students’ code of conduct, the history and objectives of SIWES, and the roles of various stakeholders.
The second session, facilitated by Mr. Oluwakolade Aje, Training and Development Officer, focused on workplace safety. He enlightened the students on accident prevention, emergency response, and the importance of adhering to safety protocols during industrial training.
Also in attendance were the Polytechnic’s SIWES Director, Mrs. Oluwabiyi, and departmental SIWES coordinators, who pledged their readiness to support students throughout the programme. Members of the management team joined the Rector in hosting the visitors from ITF, underscoring the institution’s commitment to ensuring that students maximise the SIWES opportunity.
For many ND II students, the orientation served as both a wake-up call and an inspiring moment.
“I now understand that SIWES is not just a requirement, but a chance to prove myself,” said Temitope Adeyemi, an ND 2 Mass Communication student.
“The session on documentation opened my eyes to how important record-keeping will be.”
Another student, Seyifunmi Adefeyiju from the Business Administration Department, highlighted the relevance of the safety session.
“We often take safety for granted, but today I realised it could save lives. I feel better prepared for the challenges ahead,” he remarked.
The SIWES programme, which spans several months, will see students deployed to industries across the country where they will gain hands-on experience in their respective fields. The orientation exercise, according to organisers, was designed to ensure students not only perform well but also uphold the image of the Polytechnic.
As the event drew to a close, there was a shared sense of readiness among students and staff alike. The Rector’s words lingered in the hall: “This is your chance to turn theory into practice. Embrace it.”

The newly sworn-in SUG President, Comrade Kuforiji Gilbert Agbolade, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to the entire student body for the trust reposed in him and his team. The 2025/2026 SUG executives now carry the responsibility of translating their mandate into meaningful action, with the entire polytechnic community watching keenly and expectantly.

04/07/2025
The sprawling main campus of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, was on Friday, 4th July 2025, agog with colours, rhythm, and rich cultural display as the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution hosted the maiden edition of Ojude AAPoly — a campus-adapted cultural carnival modelled after the popular Ojude Oba festival celebrated annually in Ijebuland.
The Ojude AAPoly 2025 will surely go down in the annals of the Polytechnic as a spectacular celebration of identity, tradition, unity and youthful elegance. Organised under the banner of the 2024/2025 SUG administration, the event drew a massive turnout of staff, students and invited guests, all proudly adorned in native finery that reflected the rich tapestry of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Commanding attention with his regal presence was the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Mobolaji Agbolade Onasanya, whose elegantly tailored green native attire, complemented with a matching Aso-Oke cap, exuded class and authority. Standing equally radiant by his side was the Deputy Rector, Dr. Serifat Tolulope Akindele, who turned heads in a white lace gown, stylishly accessorised with sunshades and poise.
The institutional dignitaries were not left out in the fashion parade. In a breathtaking display of traditional elegance, the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Kehinde Ogunbote, made a royal statement in a well-blended Iro and Buba Aso-Oke, complete with matching Iborun and Ipele. The Bursar, Mr. Ibikunle Idowu, FCA, brought in his own sartorial flair, donning a classic Dansiki and Sokoto Aso-Oke, giving off a dignified aura.
Directors, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments and other principal officers also came in their dazzling best. Particularly notable was the Director of ICT, Mrs. Odumosu, whose choice of a full white lace ensemble added purity and class to the scene.
But beyond the glamour of the staff, the students were the true heart of the day’s celebration. Led by the charismatic SUG President, the student body turned the entire event into a runway of tradition, showcasing diverse cultural attires from across Nigeria. From flowing Agbadas, richly adorned Ankara, Lace, to colourful Isi Agu and radiant George wrappers, every tribe was represented, and proudly so.
The carnival-like celebration featured pulsating drums, local dancers, cultural processions, and thrilling musical renditions. The highlight of the day was the energetic performance of the guest artiste whose melodic tunes had students and staff alike dancing in unison, creating a euphoric ambience of festivity and togetherness. Every beat seemed to echo the spirit of unity that Ojude AAPoly symbolised.
One could not help but appreciate the strategic brilliance of the SUG Executives, whose vision and coordination turned a mere idea into a resounding cultural phenomenon. The student leaders spared no detail — from logistics to security to hospitality, every touch bore the stamp of excellence and passion.
In his brief remarks, the Rector commended the Students’ Union for initiating such a laudable event, describing it as “a cultural renaissance that promotes unity, identity, and institutional pride.” He further encouraged the continuity of the initiative, adding that Ojude AAPoly should be nurtured as a legacy programme for successive student administrations.
The Deputy Rector also expressed delight at the creative ingenuity behind the event. According to her, “the blending of academia with culture helps build a holistic student experience, and today’s outing has set a commendable precedent.”
Truly, the 2025 edition of Ojude AAPoly was more than just an event — it was a movement, a celebration of heritage, and a reminder of the power of youth-led innovation. With a captivating fusion of tradition and style, the campus was transformed into a cultural haven, where old met new, and history danced with the future.
As the sun set on the vibrant festivity, one thing remained clear: the echoes of Ojude AAPoly 2025 will linger in the hearts of all who witnessed it, not just as a cultural showpiece, but as a symbol of what the polytechnic stands for — excellence, unity and pride in one’s roots.
Kudos to the 2024/2025 SUG Executives for scripting a new chapter in the history of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic. Indeed, history was made!
