Abbot Girls Secondary School, Ihiala was founded by Chief Gilbert Ekwenugo Okeke (Igwe Ozuome 1 of Ihiala), the then Honourable Regional Minister of Transport, Education, and Economic Development during the Nigerian First Republic in the Government
of Eastern Nigeria. Its aims are to provide Liberal education in Arts, Sciences, Ethics of Christian living with emphasis on sound morals and to provide facilities for full mental physical and spiritual development which leads to true citizenship and prepares for leadership. Honorable Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe the first president of the federal Republic of Nigeria, officially opened the above named school on 24th February, 1964. The school took off with a population of sixty students, one principal, and five tutorial staff members. Since the inception of the school it has had a succession of the following principals:-

In academics, Abbot Girls' is a force to be reckoned with the pioneer students made a 100% pass in their WASC in 1969. the best three students in Anambra state Junior Secondary school Examination came from Abbot Girls Secondary school, Ihiala the school is still pulling its weight in academics. It has produced women of Timber and Calibre in different spheres of life. The doctors, engineers lawyers, teachers pharmacist’s etc that passed through Abbot Girls Secondary School is always the best in their place of work. Barrister Anthonia Tabansi is a clear example of a lady that has distinguished herself in law profession. There are so many reverend sisters, nurses and teachers produced by the school. The present principal now Mrs. M.C. Egbuji a charismatic and knowledge lady does not want the light ignited by her preduces to quench in her time. She has also toed the footprints and aims of the founding father to see that Abbot Girls' excels in academics, sports and morals.
