Last week, something remarkable happened in the school I teach, something that left a lasting impact on both the students and staff.

It started with a simple message: *“We would love to come speak with your students on Human Development and Sexuality.”* At first, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we welcomed the idea with an open heart.

Then came the day.

The Department of Psychology from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), in collaboration with the Nigerian Psychological Association and Optimal Care Human Development Center, arrived with warmth, wisdom, and purpose.
The banner read “2025 Outreach Programme – *Human Development and Sexuality*,” but what they delivered was more than a programme, it was a gift of knowledge, care, and empowerment.

My students, often shy and hesitant to speak on such sensitive matters, found a safe space to ask questions and truly understand their bodies, minds, and emotions. The facilitators spoke with grace, breaking complex ideas into relatable truths. They didn’t lecture, they connected, inspired, and enlightened.

By the end of the session, we saw changes: brighter eyes, thoughtful reflections, and a sense of confidence blooming in our young minds. It wasn’t just about s*x education; it was about dignity, self-awareness, boundaries, respect, and growth.

We are deeply grateful for this outreach. It reminded me that education goes beyond textbooks, it reaches the soul. And that day, something beautiful and was planted in the hearts of my students.

Guided by their teachers, they created unique, colorful fabrics using traditional dyeing techniques.
The event celebrated Nigerian culture and textile art, and the students' finished pieces were met with admiration and applause from parents, teachers, and peers.
