OYO NUT ENDWELL SCHEME Disburses Over N90.4m to 342 Beneficiaries for Q3 2026

IBADAN, Oyo State — 9th, September, 2026

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Wing, has announced the successful disbursement of N90,441,573.75 to 342 beneficiaries under its Teachers’ Social Security, Endwell Scheme, for the third quarter of 2026.

In a release signed on September 9th, 2026, by the Secretary of the scheme, Salami B. Olukayode, the Endwell Scheme said the payment covers 323 beneficiaries of the Non-Refundable Terminal Benefit, NRTB, and 19 beneficiaries of Death-in-Service, whose payments will go to the next of kin of deceased subscribers.

According to the release, the latest payout demonstrates the "healthy condition of the scheme and competence of management team in day-to-day running of the affairs of the scheme."

The NUT Oyo State Wing described the continued payments as proof of the management’s "unwavering commitment and unalloyed loyalty" to preserving the scheme for teachers in active service and intending subscribers.

"The Endwell Scheme remains a strong image maker of the union and as such, all hands must be on deck to ensure improvement in the activities of the scheme," the statement read.

Looking ahead, the union disclosed that subscribers will soon be able to access their quarterly balances through a new mobile application currently being developed. Details of the app will be communicated to all subscribers once it is ready.

The scheme also reaffirmed its resolve to "wax stronger even in the face of severe opposition and unhealthy antagonism by few unscrupulous elements who are bent on shattering the good."

The Endwell Scheme operates under the motto, _Service and Justice_, from its office at The Teacher’s House, Oluyole Estate Ring Road, Ibadan. The Board of Trustees is chaired by Obasola Elijah Olayiwola.

For inquiries, the union listed its office line as 08055842952 and email as [email protected].

NIGERIA’S “GLORIOUS ERA” IN 1983 vs NIGERIA IN 2026 🇳🇬

Look at this 1983 newspaper:
🇺🇸 $1 = ₦0.72
⛽ Petrol = ₦0.20kobo per litre

And yet... Nigerians were STILL complaining about hunger and “high cost of living”.

Fast forward to now 2026:
🇺🇸 $1 = ₦1600+
⛽ Petrol = ₦1300 per litre
Rice 50kg = ₦60k
Transport, light bill, school fees... everything has tripled.

The painful truth?
Even when the naira was stronger than the dollar and fuel was 20 kobo, people felt the pinch. Because it was never just about the exchange rate or fuel price.

It’s always been about purchasing power.
What does your salary buy you at the end of the month?
Can a civil servant feed a family of 4?
Can a student afford transport, data and food?

1983 people thought it was bad.
2026 people are asking “how do we even survive this?”

The lesson hasn’t changed in 43 years:
Strong figures on paper mean nothing if the average Nigerian can’t eat, move, or live with dignity.

We keep chasing “glory days” but the real question is: when will the present day be good enough for the man on the street?

What do you think?
Were people right to complain in 1983, or are we in a completely different kind of hardship now?

NTC Replies NUT: "We Are Civil Society, Not Government" — Denies Usurping Powers in Oyo Teachers’ Promotion Probe

IBADAN, Oyo State — September 5, 2026

The Nigeria Teachers Congress, NTC, has responded to the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Wing, insisting that its invitation for teachers to submit evidence on alleged irregularities in promotions was a civil-society intervention and not an attempt to exercise government powers.

In a letter dated September 5th, 2026 with reference NTC/OY/NUT 2026/001, addressed to the NUT State Secretary, the NTC said it viewed the union’s September 4th query “with mixed feelings” but does not regard the NUT as an adversary.

The exchange stems from an NTC circular of September 2nd inviting teachers to voluntarily submit petitions and documentary evidence on “conflicting promotions.” The NUT had questioned the NTC’s legal mandate, status, and authority to request confidential employment documents.

NTC: We Did Not Claim Government Authority
The Congress stated clearly that it “did not purport to constitute a government investigation, disciplinary proceeding, administrative hearing or statutory inquiry.”

“There is a fundamental distinction between exercising statutory coercive powers and receiving complaints and conducting independent civil-society fact-finding or advocacy,” the letter signed by Secretary-General Medupin Opeyemi said.

The NTC described itself as an NGO/civil-society organisation and not a government regulatory agency, trade union, or statutory employer of teachers. It added that being outside government is “precisely what gives an independent civil-society organisation the ability to raise questions about administrative practices without being institutionally conflicted.”

Why We Intervened
According to the NTC, the move followed complaints from teachers about “alleged conflicting grade levels, withdrawal of promotion letters, unexplained disparities in promotion outcomes, unclear promotion criteria, omissions and other alleged irregularities.”

Rather than dismiss the complaints, the group said it asked for “valid, verifiable and evidential materials” so allegations could be examined, documented, and where necessary, forwarded to competent authorities.

On anonymity, the NTC said it was to protect teachers from “victimisation, intimidation, discrimination or other adverse consequences,” stressing that anonymous submissions would still be subjected to verification.

No Compulsion, Says NTC
Responding directly to the NUT’s fourth question, the Congress clarified that it “did not issue a compulsory legal demand backed by coercive authority.” It said teachers were only invited to voluntarily forward documents and that sensitive information would be handled confidentially with redaction or anonymisation where necessary.

"Accountability Is Not An Attack"
The NTC expressed concern that the NUT’s letter implied its intervention was inappropriate because the NUT is the recognized trade union.

“The existence of a trade union does not extinguish the legitimate role of civil-society organisations... in raising questions concerning public administration and the welfare of teachers,” the letter stated. It urged the NUT to see the move as “an opportunity for all stakeholders to work together” rather than a threat.

The Congress said it expected “collaboration, not confrontation,” and noted that both bodies have worked together in the past.

NTC Turns Four Questions Back to NUT
In the same letter, the NTC asked the NUT Oyo State Wing to clarify:
1. What mechanism exists within the NUT for receiving and independently verifying complaints on conflicting promotions?
2. How many formal complaints on the current promotion exercise has the NUT received and what action has been taken?
3. What formal steps has the NUT taken with government authorities where evidence of conflicting outcomes was presented?
4. Will the NUT collaborate with the NTC in establishing facts rather than treating an independent inquiry as a threat?

"We Have Not Pre-Judged Anyone"
The NTC emphasized it has “not declared any government agency, school authority, officer or the NUT guilty of wrongdoing,” and will acknowledge if evidence shows no irregularity occurred.

“Our guiding principle remains: Justice does not belong exclusively to the institution being questioned; justice belongs to everyone,” the letter concluded.

The NTC said it remains willing to engage constructively with the NUT and to refer matters requiring statutory determination to the appropriate authorities.

The NUT Oyo State Wing is yet to respond to the NTC’s latest letter and the four counter-questions.

NUT Oyo State Wing Questions Authority of Nigeria Teachers Congress Over Alleged Probe of Teachers’ Promotions

IBADAN, Oyo State — September 4, 2026

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Wing has called for clarification on the legitimacy of a circular issued by a group known as the Nigeria Teachers Congress, NTC, which invited teachers in the state to submit petitions and confidential documents over alleged irregularities in promotion exercises.

In a letter dated September 4th, 2026 with reference number NUT/OY/G.10/VOL. III/525, addressed to all SWEC Members and copied to Principals of Secondary Schools, Headteachers of Primary Schools, and Teachers of Primary and Secondary Schools, the union said its attention was drawn to an NTC circular dated September 2nd, 2026.

The NUT stated that while it recognizes that genuine complaints by teachers deserve attention, the mandate and authority of the NTC to investigate promotion matters involving public servants in Oyo State “require urgent clarification.”

The letter, signed by State Chairman Hassan A. Fatai, State Secretary Salami B. Olukayode, and State Treasurer Titilolu Ibukunolu S., raised seven (7) key questions:

1. Legal backing: What statutory or legal instrument empowers the NTC to investigate promotion matters involving public servants in Oyo State?

2. Status of NTC: Is the NTC a trade union, professional body, or government regulatory agency?

3. Government authorization: Which government authority authorised the NTC to collect and investigate teachers’ promotion records on its behalf?

4. Right to confidential data: What legal authority does the NTC possess to demand teachers’ confidential employment documents?

5. Who will investigate teachers’ petitions and where will the findings go?

6. What safeguards exist to protect, authenticate, and prevent misuse of the employment documents being collected?

7. Why is the NTC bypassing the established government and NUT structures for resolving teachers’ grievances?

The union described the NTC as “any other unregistered body/association” and said the issue touches on the handling of sensitive personnel records of teachers in both primary and secondary schools across the state.

The NUT Oyo State Wing operates from The Teachers’ House, Oluyole, Ring Road, Ibadan, and is a member of Education International with the motto “Service and Justice.”

As of press time, there has been no public response from the Nigeria Teachers Congress regarding the NUT’s queries.

Teachers in the state have been advised by the NUT leadership to await further directive pending clarification on the matter.

The Union’s position:
- Promotions are the responsibility of government authorities and must follow official rules and channels.

- NTC is being asked to publicly clarify its legal status and mandate, and to stop asking teachers to submit sensitive employment records directly.

- NUT says it has already engaged the appropriate authorities to look into all agitations and grievances for possible corrections.

- Warning to teachers: Be cautious about discussing your professional matters with any third party not recognized under the Trade Union Act and Labour Laws.

It ends with a request to circulate this widely to members.

SOWORE QUESTIONS INFLATION ARGUMENT AGAINST ₦500,000 MINIMUM WAGE AT NBA CONFERENCE

Speaking at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Sowore argued that the inflation argument appears to be selectively applied against workers, particularly those who risk their lives in service to the country.

According to Sowore, critics had previously argued that his proposal for a ₦500,000 minimum wage would worsen inflation. However, he questioned why the same concern is not expressed over the huge earnings of political office holders and alleged large-scale corruption.

“I am the guy who proposed ₦500,000 minimum wage, and some people said it would cause inflation, and I am asking, why is it that your senators who do nothing are taking ₦30 million per month, it doesn’t cause inflation?
“Why is it that a governor can steal ₦1 trillion that we all know, and it doesn’t cause inflation? It’s only when we want to pay workers who are risking their lives that we talk about inflation,” Sowore said.
