FG SETS NEW SUBJECT LIMITS FOR SCHOOLS

The Federal Government has completed a comprehensive review of curricula across basic, senior secondary and technical education, aimed at reducing overload and enhancing quality learning outcomes. Announcing the development on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, said the review was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), UBEC, NSSEC, NBTE and other key stakeholders. She explained that the new framework balances subject offerings with deeper, more practical learning. A press statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, on Sunday said: “At the primary level, pupils in Primary 1–3 will offer 9–10 subjects, while those in Primary 4–6 will take 10–12. For Junior Secondary School, the range is 12–14 subjects; Senior Secondary students will take 8–9; and technical schools will offer 9–11 subjects.”

Prof. Ahmad stressed that the revised curricula were designed to reduce content overload, allow more time for learning, and ensure that education remains relevant to the realities of today’s world

A Nigerian student, Kenechukwu Oluwanifemi Uba, has emerged the “Top in World” candidate in the November 2024 Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement).

Uba, a pupil of Caleb International College, Magodo, Lagos, received the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award for her performance, which was recognised by Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

JAMB suspends upload of O'level results, says the process will resume soon

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wishes to inform all candidates that the portal designated for uploading O'level results for 2025/2026 admissions has been temporarily closed.

This measure has been taken to resolve technical discrepancies affecting candidates who previously uploaded the initially-released WASSCE results. According to a tweet via JAMB's official page, the technical team is actively working to address the issue and ensure the integrity and accuracy of all uploaded data.
