THE EVOLUTION OF LEARNING
In the early stages of education, success is often measured by how well one can repeat what they’ve been told.
However, as one moves toward higher academic tiers, excellence is redefined by Synthesis and originality.
ACTIVE RECALL: Rather than re-reading notes (a passive and often ineffective habit), high achievers test themselves constantly. This forces the brain to retrieve information, which strengthens neural pathways and ensures the knowledge sticks.
CRITICAL SYNTHESIS: True excellence shines when a student can take concepts from two different disciplines—say, Economics and Psychology, and combine them to form a new perspective on a problem.
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." — Aristotle

This Camera Was Used for Aerial Photos During WWII. It was so powerful, it could spot a man smoking a cigarette from 30,000 feet.
This beast of a device is a Fairchild K-series aerial camera, used by Allied forces to map enemy territory in stunning detail. The lens was massive and heavy, earning jokes from pilots that it "weighed more than the machine gun." It used 200-foot rolls of film, capturing entire enemy installations in a single pass.
Planes equipped with these cameras often flew alone, unarmed and deep behind enemy lines, relying on altitude and speed to avoid fire. The photos helped locate N@zi rocket sites, U-boat pens, and even the layout of Auschwitz.
Analysts could calculate the height of buildings and estimate troop strength, all from shadows on a photo.

"My life-long love of physics started suddenly at the age of 15. I could not wait until I got to the university ... I remember how fascinated I was by Abbe’s theory of the microscope and by Gabriel Lippmann’s method of colour photography, which played such a great part in my work, 30 years later."
In 1951 physics laureate Dennis Gabor discovered a way of producing images with the illusion of depth - also known as holograms. The method was based on interference - interaction between light waves - and coherence - light waves aligned in phase with one another. Light falling on an object is captured on photographic film along with a reference beam that did not fall on the object. When only the reference beam falls on the developed film, the light is bent so that a reproduction with depth is produced.

Nigerian Lawyer Achieves Historic Milestone in Canada, Earns Dual Bar Admissions in One Year
A brilliant Nigerian lawyer, Emmanuel Oyesomi, has made history in Canada by earning two bar admissions within a single year, showcasing remarkable determination and legal expertise.
On June 21, 2024, Emmanuel was called to the bar of Newfoundland, just weeks after completing his Master of Laws (LLM) degree at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School.
Six months later, on December 11, 2024, he was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and officially added to the Society’s roll as a member.
Reflecting on his journey, Emmanuel shared his gratitude and experiences on LinkedIn, noting the meaningful connections he has formed and the profound impact of his legal work.
“The testimonials and reviews from clients I’ve represented over the past months give me immense joy and satisfaction,” he wrote.
He highlighted his contributions in areas such as civil law, bankruptcy, insolvency, and complex immigration cases, describing the opportunity to help clients during challenging times as deeply fulfilling.
Emmanuel also acknowledged the support and collaboration of exceptional colleagues during his tenure at Deloitte and the law firms where he articled and practiced.
Now licensed to practice as a barrister and solicitor in Alberta, Newfoundland, and Nigeria—Africa’s largest bar—he plans to focus primarily on his legal career in Alberta while continuing to strengthen his professional network.
This remarkable achievement underscores Emmanuel’s dedication to excellence and his unwavering commitment to making a difference in the legal profession.
